Cher’s property history includes a landmark Malibu mansion, a Manhattan penthouse, a Venice Beach home and a Beverly Hills bungalow. The Malibu estate is its most fully documented centerpiece—but published accounts differ on its size, and its reported listing history does not establish a completed sale or where Cher lives today.
What homes has Cher owned?
Published accounts trace several homes associated with Cher across different periods. The details below are historical reporting, not a complete inventory of her current holdings.
| Property | Reported details | Reported outcome or context |
|---|---|---|
| Silk Building penthouse, Manhattan | Architectural Digest describes a 4,500-square-foot penthouse acquired in the 1980s. | AD reports Cher sold it to Russell Simmons in 1990 for $1.6 million. |
| Malibu estate | Italian Renaissance-inspired mansion with ocean views and an infinity pool; published accounts give different size and bedroom figures. | Realtor.com reports listings in 2022 and 2023, followed by delisting in August 2024; it does not report a completed sale. |
| Venice Beach home | Contemporary home with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, according to the Los Angeles Times. | The Times reported a listing in March 2013 for slightly less than $1.9 million. |
| Beverly Hills bungalow | English Tudor-style bungalow with four bedrooms, a wraparound porch and a koi pond, per Architectural Digest. | AD reports a 2018 sale for about $2.07 million. |
| Hawaii house and an apartment “in town” | Cher mentioned both in a 2010 Vanity Fair interview; she did not specify the apartment’s location in the quoted passage. | The interview establishes what she said then, not present-day ownership. |
Why the Malibu mansion stands out
Architectural Digest’s 2022 retrospective describes the Malibu estate as an Italian Renaissance-inspired home shaped by Cher and designer Ron Wilson, with design details informed by Venice. It notes marble detailing, limestone fireplaces, ocean views and an infinity pool. AD reports that the estate was acquired for $2.95 million and describes it as 16,000 square feet, with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Architectural Digest’s account is a retrospective, so those figures should be read as that outlet’s historical reporting.
Later coverage gives different dimensions and a different bedroom count. Realtor.com’s July 22, 2026, retrospective calls the house 13,200 square feet, with seven bedrooms, on nearly two acres, and says it was custom built in 1999. The two outlets’ descriptions do not match; the available reporting does not explain the discrepancy, so neither set of measurements should be treated as a definitive reconciliation.

The listing history is not a sale record
Realtor.com reports that Cher listed the Malibu property for $85 million in 2022, reduced the asking price to $75 million in May 2023 and delisted it in August 2024. The same report says records still associated the property with the purchasing trust. A listing price is an asking price, not a completed transaction, and the reported record association does not establish current occupancy. Realtor.com’s July 2026 report quotes Cher describing the home as “one of the greatest passions of my life” and saying, “I have enjoyed every moment of its creation and evolution, but now it’s time to pass this magic on to others.” The remarks are presented in the context of marketing the house.
A separate Malibu listing appeared in 2001
A 2001 Los Angeles Times report described a Malibu house Cher had just finished building and had quietly put on the market for $25 million; it said she had bought the land seven or eight years earlier. The article is an earlier account and should not automatically be combined with later coverage of the mansion: the available reporting does not establish that they refer to the same property. The Times’s 2001 report provides the listing context, not evidence of a completed sale.
Other chapters in Cher’s property history
Manhattan’s Silk Building penthouse
Architectural Digest reports that Cher acquired a penthouse in Manhattan’s Silk Building in the 1980s, becoming the building’s first residential owner. Its retrospective describes the unit as 4,500 square feet and says it retained personal design choices. AD reports that she sold it to Russell Simmons in 1990 for $1.6 million. These are historical details from the outlet’s account, not an indication of present ownership.
Venice Beach home
In March 2013, the Los Angeles Times reported that Cher listed a contemporary Venice home for slightly less than $1.9 million. The paper described three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, high ceilings, sliding glass walls, two fireplaces and an outdoor shower. Its roof deck had a barbecue, sink and refrigerator. The Times said public records showed a purchase price of $1,542,500 about three years earlier. The report documents a listing at that time, not a current holding. The Los Angeles Times’s 2013 report gives the listing and reported purchase details.

Architectural Digest describes a Beverly Hills English Tudor-style bungalow with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a wraparound porch, koi pond, waterfall and meditation area. It reports a purchase price of $2.145 million and a 2018 sale for about $2.07 million. Those figures are AD’s historical account; the sale price is distinct from the earlier purchase price.
What Cher said about a Hawaii house
In a December 2010 Vanity Fair interview, Cher said she had “an apartment in town—for absolutely no reason—and a house in Hawaii.” The statement is useful as a dated first-person glimpse of her home life, but the quoted passage does not identify the town or establish that she still owns either property. Where does Cher live now?
The cited reporting does not establish Cher’s current residence or provide a complete, verified inventory of properties she owns today. Realtor.com’s July 2026 account reports that records continued to associate the Malibu property with its purchasing trust after its listing was withdrawn, but that is not proof of present occupancy. The Venice home’s reported 2013 listing, the Beverly Hills bungalow’s reported 2018 sale and the Silk Building penthouse’s reported 1990 sale are historical events, not evidence of where Cher lives now.
