A Complete Unknown has two useful song lists: its 23-track commercial soundtrack album and the wider set of songs heard in the film. The album, performed by the cast, runs 58 minutes and was released December 20, 2024. The film also uses cues that are not on that album, so the album tracklist is not a complete film cue sheet.

The official soundtrack album: all 23 tracks

Sony Music Canada’s official store lists the album in the following order. Apple Music identifies it as a 58-minute release dated December 20, 2024. The performances are by cast members: Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, and Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash. Sony Music Canada’s listing is the source for sequence, while Apple Music’s album page provides release metadata and performance context.

Film Music Reporter’s album details describe those credits.

Other songs associated with the film

Vague Visages also names songs that do not all appear in its timed sequence: “Oasis” and “Death, When You Come to Me” by Moondog; “Om Jai Mahavir Prabhu” by Sunny Jain; “Pallet on the Floor” by Brownie McGhee; “A Freshman with a Senior Dream” by Vinnie Monte; “The Bottle Ain’t Full No More” by Derek Vanderhorst; “Main Title Theme (Billy)” by Calexico; Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’”; Phil Ochs’s “There But for Fortune”; and “The Death of Emmett Till” and “House of the Rising Sun” by Chalamet. Since this additional list is not a formal studio cue sheet, treat these as reported film-associated tracks rather than a definitive timed inventory.

Who performs the songs, and how historical is the soundtrack?

Chalamet performed Dylan songs live on set and for the soundtrack, according to Apple Music’s album essay, which describes the approach as interpretation rather than impersonation. Barbaro sings solo and harmonizes with Chalamet; Norton performs “Wimoweh,” and Holbrook performs Cash songs. The performances serve the film’s drama, rather than claiming to reproduce every historical event or performance exactly.

Rank #2

Apple Music quotes Chalamet describing the film this way: “This is interpretive. This is not definitive. This is not fact. This is not how it happened. This is a fable.” The film dramatizes Dylan’s rise in the early-1960s New York folk scene and his move toward an electric sound. It is an adaptation of Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric!, not a documentary account.
