The apparent forced marriage was a plot device. It should not be confused with a real ceremony or described as an event that happened to Stephanie outside the scripted program.

Us Weekly summarizes an account in Paul Levesque’s 2004 book, Making the Game: Triple H’s Approach to a Better Body: Vince McMahon initially approved the relationship, then withdrew approval; the couple tried to cool things off and reunited after about ten months, after which Vince gave them approval. That 2003 ceremony is their real wedding. The Las Vegas chapel footage shown on Raw in 1999 belonged to the fictional storyline.
