A Los Angeles jury found A$AP Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, not guilty of two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm on February 18, 2025. The verdict came after a three-week trial and about three hours of deliberation. It establishes the outcome of the case—not what happened during the disputed 2021 confrontations or why jurors reached their decision.

What was A$AP Rocky accused of?

The charges stemmed from two confrontations in Hollywood on November 6, 2021, involving Rocky and Terell Ephron, a former friend and collaborator known as A$AP Relli. Ephron testified that Rocky pointed a handgun at him and fired twice during a second confrontation, according to Reuters’ account of the trial. That was testimony about the prosecution’s allegations; the acquittal means the jury found Rocky not guilty of both charged felonies.

Why was he found not guilty?

The prosecution alleged that Rocky fired at Ephron. Rocky’s attorneys argued that the gun was a prop that fired blanks and that Ephron was the aggressor, Reuters reported. The jury returned not-guilty verdicts on both counts, but the available reporting does not establish the jurors’ reasoning. The verdict should not be read as a finding that every disputed detail happened—or as proof of the defense’s account.

How the trial concluded

The Associated Press reported that the trial lasted three weeks and jurors deliberated for about three hours before returning their verdict on February 18, 2025. As jurors left, Rocky told them, “Thank y’all for saving my life,” according to the Associated Press. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said his office respected the jury’s decision.

The plea offer before trial

Before trial, prosecutors offered Rocky a plea agreement: plead guilty to one count in exchange for six months in jail, probation, and other conditions. He rejected it, the Associated Press reported. The offer was a proposed resolution, not a sentence imposed by the court.
