What to watch, by mood
For a music documentary: Becoming Led Zeppelin
Bernard MacMahon’s documentary follows Led Zeppelin’s formation and ascent, drawing on band archives and early concert footage. It is the clearest documentary pick in this group for viewers interested in the band’s beginnings and the roots of its rise.
For a gentle music-centered comedy: The Ballad of Wallis Island
Reclusive lottery winner Charles arranges a private reunion performance by folk duo McGwyer Mortimer, whose members are played by Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan. The June 2025 roundup praised the film’s warmth and Tim Key’s performance.
#1 Best Overall
- As he takes on the mantle of Captain America, Sam Wilson soon finds himself in the middle of an international incident. In a race against time, Sam must unravel a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
For supernatural and vampire stories: Presence or Sinners
Steven Soderbergh’s Presence uses the perspective of an unseen entity to tell a story focused on family dynamics and character drama; its cast includes Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan and Callina Liang. Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, takes a more overt horror route: twin brothers played by Michael B. Jordan return to 1930s Mississippi to open a juke joint, where vampires arrive. The roundup highlighted the performances and score in Sinners.
For an animated franchise anthology: Predator: Killer of Killers
Dan Trachtenberg’s animated film is split into three stories: a Viking raider, a Japanese samurai and a World War II pilot each face the Predator. Its anthology format offers three distinct historical settings rather than one continuous protagonist’s story.
Rank #2
- Side-splitting laughs abound when the selfish Emperor Kuzco is turned into a llama by his devious advisor and her hunky henchman. Now the ruler who once had it all must form an unlikely alliance with a peasant to regain his throne.
For psychological tension: The Surfer or Hurry Up Tomorrow
In Lorcan Finnegan’s The Surfer, Nicolas Cage plays a man who returns to a beach with his son and is warned away by locals; the conflict escalates from that encounter. Hurry Up Tomorrow stars Abel Tesfaye as a fictionalized version of himself, alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The Tom’s Guide roundup was sharply negative about the latter, describing its appeal as mainly for Weeknd fans or viewers curious about a widely panned film.
For crime or a dark thriller: The Alto Knights and Straw
The Alto Knights is a crime drama inspired by true events, with De Niro in dual roles as mob figures Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. The roundup’s reviewer found its pacing slow and its rewards limited beyond De Niro’s performance. Straw, directed by Tyler Perry, follows a single mother through a chain of adverse events that leaves her at the center of suspicion in an indifferent world.

Subscription streaming and PVOD are different kinds of access
The reported Hulu, HBO Max, Peacock and Netflix entries were subscription-streaming releases. PVOD means premium video on demand: Sinners, Hurry Up Tomorrow and The Surfer were listed for separate digital rental or purchase through Amazon, rather than as titles included with a subscription. The source gave no prices, recurring plan details or region-specific availability.
All dates and platform listings above describe the June 3–9, 2025 roundup. They do not establish where these films can be watched today; catalogs and digital storefronts can vary by date and location. Check the relevant service or store for current availability and rental or purchase terms.

How the roundup judged the films
This is a recommendation list, not an objective ranking. Its praise and criticism reflect the Tom’s Guide writer’s opinions. For example, the article reported a 14% Rotten Tomatoes score for Hurry Up Tomorrow in 2025; that is a dated figure from the article and may have changed since. The source did not provide a current score check.
