TechRadar published its list on September 2, 2024. It reported different services for the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, so a listing for one country should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.

What kind of horror is each film?
For a playful loop or Halloween anthology
- Happy Death Day: A college student relives the day she is murdered by a masked killer. TechRadar’s roundup points to Jessica Rothe’s performance and the time-loop setup as the film’s draws.
- Trick ’r Treat: This Halloween anthology links its stories through Sam, a recurring figure, with tales involving werewolves, slashers and ghosts. It is the list’s seasonal choice.
For suspense and slasher violence
- Watcher: In Chloe Okuno’s slow-burn thriller, Maika Monroe plays Julia, an American in Bucharest who suspects a man watching her may be a serial killer.
- In a Violent Nature: Chris Nash’s slasher follows Johnny, a killer who returns after his corpse is disturbed. Its deliberate pace and perspective set it apart from a conventional chase-focused slasher; the film is also graphically violent.
For grief, identity and the uncanny
- Handling the Undead: Thea Hvistendahl adapts John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel about families whose dead loved ones return. TechRadar characterizes it as restrained and centered on grief rather than as a conventional gore-heavy zombie film.
- I Saw the TV Glow: Jane Schoenbrun’s surreal film follows two classmates connected by an underground television series, exploring identity, friendship and belonging.
For science-fiction horror or a familiar haunted building
- New Life: John Rosman’s directorial debut follows Jess, who is fleeing north, and Elsa, the agent pursuing her. The roundup recommends it as character-driven science-fiction horror; more of the setup is best left undisclosed.
- Apartment 7a: Natalie Erika James’s prequel to Rosemary’s Baby follows dancer Terry in the same building years earlier. It stars Julia Garner, Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally.
For a late-month Shudder pick
- Oddity: Damian McCarthy’s film appeared on the schedule for September 27 after its South by Southwest premiere. TechRadar singled it out as a particularly frightening release.
How to use this list
The schedule combines films from different release years: Happy Death Day and Trick ’r Treat are older titles, while six entries are 2024 films. It is an editorial selection, not a ranked list, audience survey or current availability database. Its most useful distinction is mood: comic time loop and anthology, slow-burn suspense and graphic slasher, or more subdued and surreal stories about grief and identity.
