There is no verified source identifying the exact nine actors implied by this title, and “failed at singing” can mean very different things: poor reception, limited chart reach, a short-lived recording career, or simply that acting remained someone’s main profession. The examples below are documented celebrity music attempts—not a verdict on anyone’s vocal ability. They span Hollywood and U.S.-focused coverage; they are not a single ranked or definitive list.
What counts as a failed attempt?
A recording that did not become a hit is not proof that its performer could not sing. Nor does a brief music career establish that a release was poorly received. The available coverage mixes commercial performance, audience reaction, career duration, and editorial opinion, so those measures should not be treated as interchangeable. The names below are examples from published lists, not a verified match for an intended nine-person roster.
Nine actors and celebrities who tried music
1. William Shatner
WatchMojo includes Shatner’s 1968 album The Transformed Man among celebrity recording careers. The page describes it as dramatic readings in a stylized, spoken-word approach, rather than conventional singing. It is a useful reminder that a list of “singing attempts” may include performance that does not fit an ordinary pop-vocal category. WatchMojo’s list treats the project as part of a broad editorial judgment about celebrity music careers.
2. Leonard Nimoy
Nimoy is named in WatchMojo’s roundup of actors who tried to become pop stars. That establishes that his recording work is part of the list’s subject; it does not, by itself, establish a particular vocal failure, chart result, or audience response.

3. Bruce Willis
Willis appears in both WatchMojo’s list and CafeMom’s 2021 roundup of celebrities who tried music. CafeMom discusses a mixture of limited chart outcomes and music careers that did not reach the profile of the celebrity’s other work. These are editorial framings, not proof that Willis lacked singing ability.
4. Tyra Banks
Banks is included by both WatchMojo and CafeMom. The coverage places her among celebrities whose music efforts did not become defining pop careers. That is a claim about career reach, not a technical assessment of her voice.
Rank #2
5. Paris Hilton
Hilton is named in both roundups. CafeMom’s article groups her with attempts judged in part by commercial results, while WatchMojo places her in a broader list of celebrity pop-star attempts. Neither article supplies a basis here for treating chart performance as a measure of vocal skill.
6. Steven Seagal
Seagal appears in WatchMojo’s and CafeMom’s lists. His inclusion documents a music attempt, but the two articles’ list format and broad career framing do not establish a consistent, independently verified standard for calling the effort a failure.

Johansson is another name shared by WatchMojo and CafeMom. The fact that she is better known to many people as an actor would not, on its own, show that a music release failed; career prominence and singing ability are separate questions.
8. Brie Larson
Larson is included in both published roundups. Her presence illustrates why these lists need careful wording: being an actor who also released music is a factual category, whereas declaring that someone “cannot sing” requires evidence about vocal performance that these list entries do not establish.
Rank #4
9. Robert Downey Jr.
Downey is named in CafeMom’s 2021 list. The article places him among celebrities whose music careers did not rival their acting profiles, but that comparison describes relative career reach, not a verified judgment of vocal ability.

The published lists do not agree on one roster. WatchMojo names 27 people, CafeMom names 15, and WhatCulture’s 2014 list uses a different framing. The sources also cover different kinds of activity—albums, singles, film-related music, and other music work—rather than one uniform category. For example, WhatCulture explicitly notes that some actor-musicians did succeed, so actors should not be treated as a group destined to fail at music.

Geography changes the subject, too. Brandsynario’s list is specifically about Pakistani actors; it should not be folded into a Hollywood- or U.S.-focused roster without saying so. The Economic Times result about Priyanka Chopra is only a search-result lead here, not a source for detailed claims.
How to judge a celebrity music attempt fairly
- Identify the work: distinguish an album or single from a film soundtrack, band project, or spoken-word performance.
- Name the criterion: say whether the evidence concerns chart or sales performance, reception, or how long the person pursued music.
- Keep the conclusion narrow: a short-lived career or limited commercial reach does not establish poor singing.
- Separate fame from ability: an actor remaining better known for acting is not evidence that a music attempt was a failure.
CafeMom’s page discusses chart and sales claims, but it does not identify the original chart-data publisher for those figures. Those numbers should therefore not be repeated as authoritative chart statistics without primary chart records.
