In a pre-finale interview, Ryan Guzman called Eddie’s behavior with Kim self-indulgent and left both Eddie’s relationships and Bobby’s fate unresolved.

In a TVLine interview published May 29, 2024—the day before the scheduled May 30 9-1-1 Season 7 finale—Ryan Guzman said Eddie’s choices with Kim had been driven by self-indulgence, not concern for Christopher. He did not reveal whether Eddie would stay with Kim, reconcile with Marisol, or what would happen to hospitalized Bobby. These were pre-finale expectations, not answers to the episode’s cliffhangers.

What Ryan Guzman said Eddie was thinking

The immediate crisis was Eddie’s involvement with Kim, who resembles his late wife, Shannon. Christopher and Marisol returned home and found Eddie with Kim; Christopher’s response was, “Mom?”

Guzman, who plays Eddie Diaz, interpreted the character’s behavior as an effort to indulge a fantasy rather than protect his son. “He was never thinking about Christopher,” he told TVLine. He added: “He was never thinking about anything other than exploring this dreamlike scenario, and kind of rewording what a lie is because he wanted to believe the lie was the truth. It was never about anything other than Eddie’s own indulgence.”

Guzman described Eddie’s reaction to being caught as the realization that he had hurt Christopher again: “He’s just thinking, ‘Oh my God, I’ve screwed up my kid again, and I just can’t get out of my own way,’” That is Guzman’s reading of Eddie, rather than a confirmed explanation from the character in the finale.

Did Eddie stay with Kim or work things out with Marisol?

The May 29 interview did not settle either relationship. Asked about Marisol’s response, Guzman said, “No, I don’t know how you come back from seeing your man cuddling up with another woman with tears in their eyes.” He was unsure how she might react; he did not confirm a breakup, forgiveness, or a future for Eddie and Kim.

Likewise, the interview does not say how Eddie would explain the scene to Christopher. The child’s “Mom?” reaction establishes what he saw, but Guzman’s comments offer no finale answer about the conversation that followed.

What Guzman’s preview said about Bobby

Before the finale, Bobby was hospitalized after escaping the fire at his home. TVLine’s preview said the 118 would rally around him, but left his outcome open. It did not report that Guzman had confirmed Bobby’s death or survival.

The uncertainty followed the May 23 episode’s cliffhanger: Bobby rescued an unconscious Athena, then collapsed after she recovered, apparently suffering cardiac arrest. That ending made Bobby’s fate a question going into the finale, not one answered by Guzman’s preview.

Guzman’s broader preview of Eddie’s future

In a separate TV Insider interview published May 10, 2024, Guzman teased “some bombshells” and “massive events” for Eddie. He suggested Eddie could feel isolated and might no longer have someone to run to. Looking toward Season 8, Guzman described a “refresh button” for the character and said he hoped Eddie would let go of the past so a new future could enter.

Those remarks framed a possible direction for Eddie after the finale; they did not establish a particular romantic outcome or guarantee how the next season would handle him.
