The “Ashes, Ashes” preview sets up a tense obstacle for Hen and Karen’s plan to adopt Mara: Councilwoman Olivia Ortiz confronts Hen over her son’s death. The clip makes the adoption stakes clear, but it does not reveal whether the adoption ultimately goes through.
What happens in the sneak peek?
Denny introduces Mara as the sister he is about to have, and Mara says Hen and Karen are adopting her. Then Councilwoman Olivia Ortiz congratulates Hen before adding, “Sadly, her heroics didn’t extend to my son.” The remark points to Hen’s past role in Ortiz’s son’s death and suggests that the history could complicate the family’s adoption plans.
The clip establishes Ortiz’s grievance and the adoption context; it does not explain the full circumstances behind her accusation or show the final outcome for Mara.
What else is in “Ashes, Ashes”?
The episode listing describes three storylines: the 118 and Tommy receive the Medal of Valor for the cruise-ship rescue, Hen and Karen encounter an unforeseen hurdle in their foster-care journey, and Eddie’s emotional affair develops further. TV Guide also identifies the foster-care hurdle as part of the episode. Apple TV’s episode listing and TV Guide’s Season 7 guide provide the episode descriptions.

Why does Eddie think Kim looks familiar?
A separate preview focuses on Eddie and Kim, not Hen and Ortiz. Coverage of that clip connects Kim’s familiar appearance to her resemblance to Eddie’s deceased wife, Shannon. It is a different storyline from the adoption-focused sneak peek. Yahoo’s preview coverage discusses the Eddie and Kim scene.
