If you finished Andor wanting more stories about power, resistance, and the human cost of political choices, start with The Expanse. It is the clearest match for politically minded science fiction in this list. For a different kind of intrigue, try Battlestar Galactica (2004). The remaining picks are broader alternatives, especially if you want to stay in the Star Wars universe rather than recreate Andor’s grounded tone.
How to choose your next show
Andor is a prequel to Rogue One, framed by Lucasfilm as a story of political intrigue and danger. Disney+ lists two seasons, spanning 2022–2025, and categorizes the series as science fiction and espionage. Its appeal is not simply that it takes place in space: it follows ordinary people caught up in systems of power and the risks of rebellion.

That distinction matters when choosing a follow-up. Tony Gilroy, the show’s creator, has described his priorities as “the storytelling,” the logic and plotting, the characters, and whether the story makes sense and ties together. The recommendations below are editorial matches along specific dimensions, not claims that every title has the same style or tone.
- Want political science fiction? Begin with The Expanse.
- Want an extended science-fiction drama built around intrigue? Consider Battlestar Galactica (2004).
- Want more Star Wars? Choose among The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Star Wars Rebels—with the understanding that franchise continuity does not guarantee the same grounded political texture.
The strongest thematic matches
1. The Expanse — for political science fiction
The Expanse is the best-supported pick if what you want after Andor is a different science-fiction world shaped by political divisions and dangerous power struggles. Alcon Entertainment describes tensions among Earth, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt, alongside a conspiracy that threatens to bring about war. That premise makes it a natural choice for viewers drawn to political systems and the possibility that personal decisions can have larger consequences.
#1 Best Overall
The connection is thematic, not a promise of identical storytelling. The Expanse is based on novels by James S.A. Corey, so viewers who want to continue beyond the screen also have a directly related book series to explore. Alcon’s page says the series streams on Amazon Prime; availability can vary by country and change over time.
2. Battlestar Galactica (2004) — for sustained intrigue
If you want another science-fiction drama that gives intrigue room to develop over time, try the 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica. TIME’s guide to science-fiction television describes it as developing intrigue across 4.5 seasons and dates the series to 2004–2009. That supports it as a choice for viewers who want an extended dramatic story, but it does not establish that its politics, tone, or character work closely mirrors Andor.
Rank #2
More Star Wars, with a different kind of match
These three choices are for viewers who want to remain in the same franchise. Disney+ includes all three in its guide to science-fiction films and shows. That listing establishes them as Star Wars viewing options, not as close tonal equivalents to Andor.
3. The Mandalorian — to continue in live-action Star Wars
Disney+ lists The Mandalorian among its live-action Star Wars shows. Choose it if the main thing you want is another live-action story in that universe. The available listing does not substantiate a more specific comparison with Andor’s grounded political intrigue.
Rank #3
4. Ahsoka — for another Star Wars-universe story
Ahsoka is another option on Disney+’s Star Wars guide. It fits the broad request for more stories set in the franchise, but the guide alone does not show that it shares Andor’s focus or tone.
5. Star Wars Rebels — for an animated franchise option
If animation is welcome, Disney+ also lists Star Wars Rebels. It offers another way to stay with Star Wars stories involving resistance in the same universe. The cited guide supports that broad connection; it is not a detailed comparison of the series’ themes or style with Andor.
Rank #4
Why the list focuses on these five
A useful recommendation should explain what a show has in common with Andor, rather than treating “science fiction” or “a struggle against power” as enough on its own. The clearest program-level evidence here supports The Expanse’s political science-fiction premise and TIME’s description of Battlestar Galactica as intrigue-rich. Disney+’s guide supports the other three as franchise viewing paths, but not as equivalent in tone.
That means there are five recommendations with a grounded explanation for why each belongs. Two additional titles cannot responsibly be presented as researched matches on the available evidence: audience discussions mention possible candidates, but they do not establish those shows’ premises or prove a meaningful comparison. Rather than fill the last two slots with unsupported claims, this list keeps its recommendations tied to what the cited sources actually support.
