The best place to buy vinyl online depends on the record you want: Discogs is well suited to finding a particular pressing, Bandcamp and label stores offer direct routes to independent music, and large retailers can be simpler for mainstream releases and preorders. For used or collectible records, inspect the individual listing and seller before you buy.
Where to shop for vinyl records online
| Shop | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Discogs | Specific pressings, rarities, and collector searches | A marketplace with listings from collectors, independent record stores, and other sellers. WIRED reported about 12 million records for sale in the United States in 2026; that is a dated article figure, not a live audited inventory count. |
| Bandcamp | Independent music and direct artist or label purchases | Browse by format, genre, new releases, or location. Individual releases may offer variants, bundles, signed copies, or previews; availability and terms depend on the release. |
| eBay | Lower-cost lots and collection auctions | Listings may offer groups of records or auctions, but contents and condition can be less predictable. Exercise particular care with expensive or rare records. |
| Tower Records | Mainstream releases and preorders | The online shop is a place to look for popular releases and advance orders. Check the individual product page for current availability and preorder status. |
| Midheaven Mailorder | Independent-label releases | Run by distributor Revolver USA, Midheaven focuses on releases from smaller and midsize independent labels. Check the shop for current stock and shipping terms. |
| Amoeba Music | Shopping from an independent record store | Its online shop is another option when you know what you are looking for. Check the listing for availability and terms. |
| Official artist or label store | Buying from a musician or label you already follow | Check the official store for direct-sale releases and any available variants. Examples include Stones Throw, Sub Pop, Secretly Group, Fat Possum, Rough Trade, Daptone, Blue Note, and International Anthem. |
Choose a shop based on the record you want
For a particular pressing or a hard-to-find record
Start with Discogs when you need a specific edition, pressing, or collectible. Its marketplace brings together many sellers, but each purchase is a transaction with an individual seller: judge the listing, condition, shipping, and seller history rather than treating the platform as a single retailer.

For new independent music
Bandcamp is a useful starting point for independent artists and labels. Search its vinyl listings or browse genres and scenes, then open the release page to confirm whether a physical copy is actually available and what the seller’s shipping terms are. If you have a particular artist or label in mind, its own official store is another direct route.
For a stack of records or an auction
eBay can turn up collection lots and auctions that are useful if you are open to a mixed selection. Read the full description and inspect any photographs: a lot may not contain the titles, editions, or condition you expect. For a high-value or rare record, a clearly identified individual listing is easier to assess than an uncertain bundle.

#1 Best Overall
- COLLECTION STARTER lots can be used for vintage decoration, as party items or unique gifts
- GENUINE VINYL RECORDS are in this lot. Most of these records are playable but some may come scuffed or the labels may have faded
- CREATIVE TYPES use these to make room dividers, curtains, shop decors, heat them up and shape them into bowls, ashtrays, key chains, guitar picks
- VARIOUS GENRES may be found in this lot. Blues, rock, jazz, rnb, hip-hop, pop, sould, disco, country genres are most common ones
For a mainstream release or preorder
Check Tower Records for popular titles and preorders. A product page can change as stock and release dates change, so confirm the status shown for the exact edition before placing an order.
For label catalogs and independent record shops
Midheaven Mailorder is oriented toward independent-label releases. Amoeba Music offers another independent-store option, especially when you already know the title you want. Neither destination should be assumed to have a particular record in stock; verify the product listing.

How to assess a used or collectible listing
Discogs Community Support recommends checking the condition grade, seller information, and transaction terms before buying. Its guidance applies to evaluating marketplace purchases; it does not guarantee a seller’s conduct or a delivery time.
- Confirm the exact release. Match the listing to the pressing or edition you want; a familiar album title alone does not establish that it is the right version.
- Read the condition description. Review the Goldmine grade and the seller’s notes. If the grading is unclear, ask the seller for clarification before purchase.
- Review the seller. Check location, inventory, ratings, and feedback, as well as the seller’s stated terms.
- Calculate the total cost. Read shipping charges, return rules, and refund terms before comparing the listing with other options.
- Compare the asking price with sales history. Recent completed sales can give more useful context than the current asking prices alone.
- Keep the transaction on-platform. Discogs advises using its marketplace for communication and payment and requesting tracking. Allow extra time for international delivery.
Finding more independent record shops
Recordstore.com lists established US-based shops linked to Discogs inventories. Its directory can help locate additional sellers; the number of shops and their activity can change, and a shop’s listing rank is not an editorial quality rating.
