Taylor Russell plays Maren in Bones and All, a 2022 road story that joins a grotesque premise to a tender search for love and belonging. Here are seven key facts about Russell’s role, the film’s story and its creative team.
1. Taylor Russell plays Maren
Maren is a young woman who has survived by eating human flesh. She has moved from town to town with her father, but when he leaves her, she sets out to find her mother. Guadagnino said he is drawn to “people living on the margins of society,” adding that the film’s heart is “tender and affectionate” toward its characters. His statement offers a useful way to read the contrast at the center of the film: its cannibalism premise is disturbing, while its focus on Maren and Lee’s emotional journeys invites attention to exclusion, intimacy and the search for kinship. These are interpretive themes, not a replacement for the film’s horror elements. The full director’s statement appears in the Venice listing.
