Jay-Z is associated with businesses in entertainment, hospitality, streaming, spirits, investment and apparel, but “associated with” is more accurate than saying he wholly owns all seven. This selection covers ventures with documented founding or ownership ties; those ties differ, and some changed over time.
How to read this list
Founding a company, co-owning it and holding a current stake are different things. The seven entries below are notable ventures named in The 40/40 Club’s official JAY-Z biography and related company or investor materials. The sources establish some historical roles and partnerships, but do not disclose current equity percentages for every private venture. This is a selection, not a definitive ranking or an exhaustive portfolio.

Why the ownership details matter
Several entries are partnerships rather than solo-owned companies: the 40/40 Club and Roc Nation have named co-founders, D’USSÉ was founded with Bacardi, and Armand de Brignac is a joint venture with Moët Hennessy. A founder’s name or involvement alone does not prove a present-day ownership percentage.
Two ownership histories have particularly clear dated changes. Block’s March 4, 2021 announcement said it planned to acquire a majority stake in TIDAL; the sources here do not disclose JAY-Z’s share after that transaction. Separately, Forbes reports that Bacardi bought a majority of his D’USSÉ stake in 2023. For Armand de Brignac, LVMH’s 2023 filing records its acquisition of a 50% stake in 2021, which is why describing the brand as wholly owned by JAY-Z would be inaccurate.

What the portfolio spans
Taken together, these ventures connect JAY-Z with entertainment, hospitality, streaming, spirits, investment and clothing. The evidence is strongest for specific historical roles—such as co-founding Roc Nation in 2008 or Marcy Venture Partners in 2018—and for the dated stake changes at TIDAL, D’USSÉ and Armand de Brignac. It does not support treating all seven as companies he currently owns outright.
