The best baseball movie depends on what you want from the game: a laugh, a family story, a look at baseball history, or a drama about the people shaping a team. Rotten Tomatoes’ 67 Best Baseball Movies of All Time, published March 24, 2025, is a useful place to start—but its order reflects review categories, not a definitive ranking across every kind of film.
How to read the 67-film list
Rotten Tomatoes groups its selections by freshness status: Certified Fresh titles appear first, followed by Fresh and then Rotten films. That makes the guide review-led. Its first-listed film is not necessarily the best choice for every viewer, and the order or scores may change if Rotten Tomatoes updates the page.

Major League Baseball offers a separate baseball-movie feature, published December 24, 2023. It frames the genre around heroes, scandal, triumph, failure, comedy, and tragedy. These are two editorial perspectives, not a single agreed-upon ranking.
Choose by the kind of baseball movie you want
For a bittersweet story about a field and its community
Eephus (2024) was first in Rotten Tomatoes’ guide when it was published. The publication describes a story about two New England Sunday-league teams facing the impending construction of a new field. Its placement is specific to that guide and may change if the list is revised.

For adult comedy and relationships
Bull Durham (1988) combines minor-league baseball with a relationship story, according to Rotten Tomatoes. It suits viewers who want character interplay as much as action on the diamond.
For team-building and analytics
Moneyball (2011) follows Billy Beane’s rejection of conventional baseball wisdom, making it a natural pick for viewers interested in how a team is assembled and evaluated.
Rank #2
- Tom Hanks and Geena Davis star in this big-league comedy based on the real-life exploits of the All-American Girls Baseball League.
For a sentimental fantasy about family
Field of Dreams (1989) blends baseball, fantasy, and family connection. It also appears in MLB’s baseball-movie feature.
For lighter, accessible viewing
Rotten Tomatoes categorizes The Sandlot and A League of Their Own among its comedies. They are useful starting points when you want a lighter film rather than a documentary or a serious historical drama.

For baseball history and the Negro Leagues
The League (2023), directed by Sam Pollard, is a documentary about the Negro Leagues’ achievements and challenges through the first half of the twentieth century, as described by Rotten Tomatoes. For a story about scandal and historical drama, consider Eight Men Out (1988), which centers on the conflict surrounding the 1919 World Series and the Chicago White Sox.
What the genre includes
These selections show why one ranking cannot serve every viewer equally. Baseball movies range across comedy, drama, fantasy, and documentary, and they differ in whether the game itself, team management, historical events, or relationships take center stage. Rotten Tomatoes’ guide includes documentaries such as The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg and The League alongside fictional features. MLB’s separate feature also presents baseball film as a genre spanning triumph and failure as well as comedy and tragedy.
Rank #4
To narrow the list, decide first whether you want fiction or documentary, then choose a tone and subject: a family-oriented story, adult character drama, baseball-history film, or a story about management and analytics. That is more useful than treating a freshness category as a universal verdict.
