Anime catgirls range from characters with lasting feline features to supernatural transformations and brief costume-like depictions. This subjective roundup focuses on six recognizable examples identified in published catgirl lists and features. It favors memorable catlike design, feline behavior, or a meaningful connection between a character’s feline identity and the story—not an alleged fan consensus or objective cuteness ranking.
What counts as an anime catgirl?
“Catgirl” commonly describes a female character with feline traits such as cat ears or a tail, but the label can also be applied more loosely to costume or temporary depictions. This list uses a narrower rule: each character has a recognizable, persistent or narratively meaningful connection to cats. A feature in Crunchyroll News distinguishes decorative cat traits from characters whose feline identity has a role in the story, while noting that a character can remain a girl first and a cat second.
The entries are grouped by the kind of feline connection they represent. The order is not a ranking, and “cutest” is a matter of taste.
