Streaming rights change by country and date, so a service named in an older article is a lead to check—not a guarantee that a film is included today.
Where to check the six films today
JustWatch’s U.S. Christmas streaming guide says it checked 375 streaming services on October 7, 2026. That is a dated U.S. catalog reference, not a worldwide availability guarantee. Its individual title results are not established here, so check the exact film and version in your country before choosing a service. Also distinguish a title included with a subscription from one available only through an add-on, rental or purchase; those access types are not interchangeable.
| Film | What is established about streaming |
|---|---|
| The Grinch (2018) | A December 2025 Tom’s Guide article linked to Peacock, but current inclusion in Peacock is not confirmed. Verify that the listing is the 2018 animated film. |
| The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) | Disney said in a 2025 holiday announcement that it was streaming on Disney+. That historical statement does not confirm its October 2026 availability. |
| Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983) | A current streaming destination is not established. |
| The Polar Express (2004) | Tom’s Guide linked to Hulu, and Disney announced a November 20, 2025 arrival on Disney+ and Hulu. Neither statement confirms current access in October 2026. |
| Rise of the Guardians (2012) | A December 2025 Tom’s Guide article linked to Peacock, but current inclusion is not confirmed. |
| Klaus (2019) | Netflix’s U.S. Christmas family-movies catalog lists the film as of October 7, 2026. Availability outside the U.S. may differ. |
Six animated films for different holiday moods
The Grinch (2018): a modern animated take on a familiar Christmas story
This is the Illumination feature—not the 1966 animated television special or the 2000 live-action movie. The green Christmas-hater shares the story with Max and Cindy-Lou Who, making it a straightforward pick for a contemporary family watch.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993): for a Halloween-and-Christmas double feature
Jack Skellington’s visit to Christmas Town gives this stop-motion musical its unusual seasonal blend. Choose it when you want holiday songs and a story that also feels at home in a Halloween lineup.
#1 Best Overall
Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983): a compact Dickens adaptation
Scrooge McDuck leads this Disney retelling of A Christmas Carol, built around the familiar visitations of the ghosts of Christmas. Its classic 2D animation and concise format suit a shorter, nostalgic holiday viewing.
The Polar Express (2004): a Christmas Eve train ride
A boy boards a train bound for the North Pole in this motion-capture animated adventure. The journey includes a musical hot-chocolate sequence and suits viewers looking for a wintry, wonder-filled story.

Rise of the Guardians (2012): a more action-oriented seasonal fantasy
This winter fantasy brings holiday and folklore figures together, but it is not strictly a Christmas movie. It is a good fit when the group wants more adventure and a broader seasonal atmosphere rather than a story centered only on Christmas.
Klaus (2019): a stylized Santa-origin story
Jesper, a postman, encounters a reclusive toymaker in this animated origin story. Its distinctive visual style and focus on how a legend takes shape make it a strong choice for viewers who want a newer Santa tale.

One more Christmas-centered option
Arthur Christmas (2011)
If you want a more directly Christmas-centered CG family comedy, consider Arthur Christmas. Sony Pictures Animation describes the Aardman production as Arthur’s urgent mission to deliver a present before Christmas morning and names Sarah Smith as director.

How to choose from the list
- For traditional holiday nostalgia, try Mickey’s Christmas Carol or The Polar Express.
- For a musical that crosses seasonal boundaries, choose The Nightmare Before Christmas.
- For an origin story, try Klaus; for a more action-oriented fantasy, try Rise of the Guardians.
- For the Grinch, search specifically for the 2018 animated feature so it is not confused with another adaptation.
- Before watching, confirm whether your chosen listing is included with your subscription or requires an add-on, rental or purchase.
