Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor 4K/2160p at 60 fps on YouTube Live, set OBS to 50 Mbps video bitrate with H.264 or 35 Mbps with AV1 or H.265/HEVC. Use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. A measured, sustained 100 Mbps upload connection should have enough capacity on paper: YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom, leaving roughly 80 Mbps for the stream and its network demands.
That answer assumes 100 Mbps is your actual upload speed, not the download figure in an internet plan. Measure upload speed on the connection you will broadcast from, and account for other people and devices using it.
Recommended OBS settings for 4K 60fps YouTube Live
| Setting | Recommended value | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution and frame rate | 3840 Ă— 2160, 60 fps | YouTube identifies this as 4K/2160p at 60 fps and supports encoder frame rates up to 60 fps. |
| Video codec | H.264, AV1, or H.265/HEVC | Use a codec supported by your encoder and streaming workflow. YouTube’s recommendations for this mode are 50 Mbps for H.264 and 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265. |
| Video bitrate | H.264: 50 Mbps AV1 or H.265: 35 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended targets. Its listed minimums are 14 Mbps for H.264 and 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265; the minimums are not the recommended quality targets. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube specifies constant bitrate encoding for live streams. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Streaming protocol | RTMPS recommended; RTMP also supported | RTMPS is the secure extension to RTMP. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; stereo at 128 kbps | Audio traffic is additional to the video bitrate. |
These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, not results from testing a particular OBS version, computer, encoder, or internet provider. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Is 100 Mbps upload enough for 4K 60fps?
If 100 Mbps is a sustained, measured upload speed available to the stream, it is sufficient on paper for either recommended video bitrate. YouTube advises leaving 20% upload headroom. Applying that guidance to 100 Mbps leaves an approximate 80 Mbps working budget; this is a calculation from YouTube’s headroom recommendation, not a separate YouTube bitrate cap. Both recommended video targets fit below it, with room for audio and variation.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not treat a plan advertised as “100 Mbps” as proof of 100 Mbps upload. Plans may quote download speed, and outbound capacity can be lower. A shared or unstable connection also reduces what is reliably available to OBS. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend accounting for other users and testing the broadcast connection.
Set up OBS and YouTube before going live
- Measure the connection. Run an upload speed test from the same network and, ideally, the same computer you will use for the stream. Check whether other people or devices will be using the connection during the broadcast.
- Choose the video encoder and target bitrate. In OBS, open Settings → Output and configure the streaming encoder. Select a supported codec, then set the video bitrate to 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265. Choose CBR rate control. OBS labels and available codec options can vary with its version, operating system, and hardware encoder.
- Set resolution and frame rate. In Settings → Video, set the output to 3840 × 2160 and 60 fps. Confirm your computer and encoder can produce that output without dropped frames; the bitrate recommendation does not guarantee that the hardware can encode it smoothly.
- Set keyframes and audio. In the encoder’s output options, use a 2-second keyframe interval. Configure AAC or MP3 audio; YouTube recommends 128 kbps stereo. Keep audio traffic in mind in addition to the video bitrate.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel. YouTube’s guide to encoder setup is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Use RTMPS when available. YouTube supports both RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS. Select the RTMPS server option in OBS if available for your setup.
- Test before the event. Send a private or unlisted test stream and include audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream health and messages, and verify the received resolution, frame rate, sound, and stability before relying on the setup.
4K latency and stream resolution behavior
YouTube says 4K/2160p live streams are optimized for quality and use normal latency; the low-latency option is unavailable at that resolution. If rapid audience interaction matters more than 4K detail, weigh that limitation before choosing 4K.

YouTube can detect an encoder’s resolution and frame rate automatically by default. Its documentation says creators using a custom stream key can manually select stream resolution in Live Control Room. YouTube also transcodes a live stream into multiple output formats for viewers, so the encoder’s outgoing settings are not the only playback version viewers may receive.
Troubleshooting bitrate and connection problems
- YouTube reports unstable or insufficient bitrate: Recheck measured upload speed during the time of day you plan to stream. Pause large uploads and downloads, reduce other network use, and use a wired connection if available. A nominal 100 Mbps plan does not establish that the stream has 100 Mbps of sustained upload available.
- OBS shows dropped frames: This commonly points to network delivery trouble, while rendering or encoding lag points toward computer or encoder load. Check OBS statistics and YouTube stream health to distinguish the symptoms. If upload is inconsistent, reduce the bitrate or choose a lower output mode that your connection can sustain.
- The stream looks poor despite matching the bitrate: Confirm the output is actually 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, verify the selected encoder and codec, and check that CBR and the intended bitrate are active. YouTube’s minimum bitrate figures are lower than its recommended targets and should not be mistaken for equivalent quality settings.
- Viewers cannot select 4K immediately: Check YouTube’s processing and stream health rather than assuming the encoder bitrate alone controls viewer playback. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple formats.
- Low latency is unavailable: This is expected for 4K/2160p streams under YouTube’s stated live-stream behavior. Consider whether a lower resolution is a better fit for an interactive event.
Or let it run in the cloud
