They are not interchangeable: Tubi and Pluto TV offer on-demand selections, while Pluto TV and Crunchyroll Channel also provide scheduled, linear programming; RetroCrush focuses on classic anime. This is a U.S. snapshot as of October 8, 2026. Catalogs, rights, languages, and platform availability change, so check each service for the title and audio or subtitle options you want.
Which free anime service fits what you want to watch?
| Service | What it offers | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tubi | Free, ad-supported streaming with a changing anime selection within a broader catalog. | Viewers looking for an on-demand selection without a subscription. | Whether a particular anime and its preferred language are currently available in your territory. |
| Pluto TV | Anime on demand and scheduled live-TV programming. | Viewers who want either to choose from listed titles or browse a channel schedule. | Current title listings and live schedule; scheduled programming does not guarantee an episode is available on demand. |
| RetroCrush | A free streaming service dedicated to classic anime. | Viewers seeking older anime, including titles associated with anime’s Golden Age. | Current title and territory availability, plus language options. |
| Crunchyroll Channel | A free, 24/7 linear anime channel on selected platforms. | Viewers who want scheduled anime programming on a supported platform. | Whether the channel is available on your platform. It is not proof that Crunchyroll’s full on-demand catalog is free. |
1. Tubi: free, ad-supported on-demand anime
Tubi describes itself as a “100% free, 100% legal streaming service” and says its content is always free to watch. Its broader service is available on the web, mobile devices, and connected TVs. Tubi’s help center explains its free and legal service model, and its welcome page lists ways to watch.

Anime is part of a changing selection, not a promise that any specific series will remain available. Search Tubi’s current catalog for the title you want and check the listing for audio and subtitle options. The cited service information establishes that Tubi is free and legal; it does not confirm the availability of any particular anime title.
2. Pluto TV: choose from on-demand anime or browse live channels
Pluto TV combines on-demand titles with scheduled live-TV channels. Its U.S. anime category has listed titles including Naruto, One-Punch Man, Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Pokémon the Series, Hunter × Hunter, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The lineup can change, so those examples should not be treated as a guarantee of current availability. See Pluto TV’s U.S. anime listings for its current on-demand selection.

#1 Best Overall
Pluto TV also lists anime programming in its live-TV lineup. Live channels follow a schedule: they suit browsing or background viewing, but a chosen episode may not be playing when you tune in. Check the schedule if you have a specific program in mind.
3. RetroCrush: a free service for classic anime
RetroCrush says it is dedicated to the “Golden Age” of anime, including exclusive first-time English releases, and that it is free to stream. That focus makes it a natural place to look for older series and films rather than a broad, all-eras catalog. Read RetroCrush’s service description, then check its current catalog for the title, country, and language you need.
Rank #2
4. Crunchyroll Channel: free scheduled programming, not full on-demand access
Crunchyroll Channel is a free, 24/7 anime channel offered on selected platforms, including Roku and Amazon Freevee, according to Crunchyroll’s channel support page. It is a linear channel, so viewers watch what is scheduled rather than selecting any episode from Crunchyroll’s full on-demand catalog.
Do not confuse the channel with Crunchyroll’s separate Premium trial. Crunchyroll describes that trial as seven days and says an accepted payment method is required; it is time-limited, not a permanent free tier. Promotions may differ. Check the terms on the free-trial help page before starting one.

How to choose a legal free option
- Start with the title. Search the service’s current catalog rather than relying on an old list or assuming a series named on a category page is still available.
- Choose on demand or live. For a specific episode, look for an on-demand listing. A linear channel follows its schedule and may not be showing the episode you want.
- Check the language and territory. Streaming rights and subtitle or dub options vary by country and can change. Confirm the details in your local service listing.
- Check device access. Tubi lists web, mobile, and connected-TV access; Crunchyroll Channel is limited to selected platforms. Verify that the service or channel is available on the device you already use.
- Separate free access from a trial. A time-limited Premium trial is not the same as an ongoing free library or channel; review payment and cancellation terms before enrolling.
