For October 2026, three Apple TV releases offer sharply different reasons to tune in: Small Prophets, a quirky new comedy series arriving October 7; Matchbox The Movie, an action adventure scheduled for October 9; and Tenzing, a historical climbing drama set to stream October 16. Those are the announced dates; check your local Apple TV listings, since the calendars reviewed do not confirm identical availability in every territory.
Three October releases at a glance
| Title | Format and mood | Announced Apple TV date |
|---|---|---|
| Small Prophets | Comedy series; quirky and character-led | October 7, 2026 |
| Matchbox The Movie | Feature film; action adventure | October 9, 2026 |
| Tenzing | Feature film; historical climbing drama | October 16, 2026 (streaming) |
Apple said in its February 3, 2026 slate announcement that it planned to debut new originals each week during 2026, alongside returning series. These three October picks turn that cadence into a useful watchlist: a series for comic oddity, a film for a high-energy chase, and a drama rooted in mountaineering history.
Small Prophets: an offbeat comedy series on October 7
Michael Sleep has spent seven years living an ordinary life after his partner, Clea, disappeared. When his father shares an old recipe, Michael tries to make homunculi—tiny prophetic spirits—in the hope they can help him find an answer about her. The premise gives the series an unusual blend of domestic routine, grief, and fantastical curiosity.
Choose Small Prophets if you want a fresh series rather than a feature film, and prefer an eccentric, character-led story over action or historical spectacle. October 7 is the arrival date listed in October release calendars.
#1 Best Overall
- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
Matchbox The Movie: an action adventure on October 9
Apple describes Matchbox The Movie as a globetrotting adventure in which an undercover CIA agent returns to his hometown and draws childhood friends into an international pursuit. The film is inspired by Mattel’s Matchbox toys, a connection that may appeal to fans of the toyline; the toys are not a prerequisite for watching the movie.
This is the high-energy pick for viewers looking for an action-focused feature. Apple’s 2026 slate announcement gives October 9 as the Apple TV premiere date.

Tenzing: a historical climbing drama streaming October 16
Tenzing centers on Tenzing Norgay and the 1953 Mount Everest expedition with Edmund Hillary. It is the choice for viewers drawn to expedition stories and historical drama rather than comedy or a contemporary action premise.
The October guide lists October 16 as the film’s Apple TV streaming date. It separately reports a theatrical run beginning October 9, so October 16 is not the start of all release availability.
