What documentaries are coming to Netflix this month? As of October 7, 2026, three later-October releases stand out for very different reasons: a four-part Mike Tyson series, a portrait of comedian Norm Macdonald, and a film about Maria Bamford’s life and comedy. Netflix’s announced dates are October 13, 16, and 23; availability can vary by country.
Which Netflix documentaries are worth watching in October?
These three releases are a subject-based selection, not a quality ranking. Choose among boxing history, deadpan comedy, and a personal story connecting comedy with mental health and family.

TYSON arrives October 13
Netflix describes TYSON as a four-part documentary series about Mike Tyson’s life, controversies, and legacy. Its scope makes it a sports biography that reaches beyond fight records and the ring to the public story surrounding one of boxing’s most recognizable figures. The announced subject matter suggests a portrait, but it should not be treated in advance as a neutral or definitive account.
Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald arrives October 16
For viewers who want a comedian’s own voice at the center, Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald draws on Macdonald’s book, sketches, stand-up, and interviews. Netflix’s October 7 announcement says Macdonald serves as narrator. That combination makes the film a natural pick for people interested in his deadpan style, career, or SNL years.

#1 Best Overall
If you want more of Macdonald’s own writing, Based on a True Story is a separate book, not a documentary edition. Penguin Random House lists it in paperback and audiobook formats: publisher details.
Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story arrives October 23
Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story follows Bamford from childhood in Duluth to fame in Los Angeles and her present-day life. Netflix describes a film that connects her comedy with her mental-health journey and family relationships. That personal focus distinguishes it from a career-only profile; it is a documentary, not clinical guidance.

What else is on Netflix’s October documentary schedule?
Netflix’s October schedule lists Who Is Martin Mull? for October 7, the date of this guide, so it is not one of the three later releases above. Netflix describes it as a star-studded documentary about Mull’s artistic life and reinvention. Its comedy-documentary feature also names SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of.
What’s on Netflix counted 12 documentary films and series scheduled for October in its September 27 roundup. That is the roundup’s count, not a definitive total for Netflix worldwide or every territory.
