This is a curated retrospective, not an objective ranking: the picks span play-focused builds and collector models, and personal favorites will differ.
LEGO Star Wars launched in October 1999, with sets based on ships of the original trilogy, including the X-wing and TIE Advanced, as StarWars.com reported. The collaboration celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024; the list below looks at notable sets across 1999–2024, not at a theme that ended that year.
How this list chooses the best LEGO Star Wars sets
“Best” here means especially worth remembering or seeking out for at least one clear reason: historical influence, a strong build or play concept, display presence, memorable characters, or an accessible way into the theme. This is a selection, not a claim that one set is universally superior or that the order is a measured score.
The 25th-anniversary milestone is a useful lens rather than a cutoff for the theme itself. LEGO’s own Death Star history references a 2025 release, so 2024 marks the end of the first quarter-century, not the end of LEGO Star Wars.

25 notable LEGO Star Wars sets from 1999 to 2024
These picks deliberately mix eras, subjects, and scales. The set numbers and dates below identify the historical examples; current availability and resale prices can change and are not implied.
-
Millennium Falcon (1999)
The Falcon is the theme’s enduring through-line: a recognizable ship that LEGO has revisited at very different scales and levels of detail. Its first-era appearance helped establish the appeal of translating an iconic screen vehicle into a buildable model.
-
X-wing (1999)
The X-wing was among the ships represented when the collaboration began. Its instantly legible silhouette and central role in the original trilogy made it a natural early subject—and a useful reminder that the theme started with vehicles fans already knew.
-
TIE Advanced (1999)
Also part of the launch-era slate, the TIE Advanced offered a sharp visual counterpoint to the Rebel ships. Its distinctive wing shape gives it strong recognition even at a modest model scale.

-
Republic Gunship 7163 (2002)
This early prequel-era vehicle is notable for more than its transport design: StarWars.com identifies it as the first appearance of the unnamed Jedi Bob minifigure. That mix of a substantial ship and an unexpected character gives it lasting retrospective appeal.
-
Millennium Falcon (2004)
LEGO’s official Falcon history calls out the 2004 edition’s panel design, making it a useful marker in the evolution of how the ship’s intricate exterior could be represented in bricks. The Falcon’s repeated redesigns show how the same subject can serve both play and display at different scales.
-
Death Star (2008)
The 2008 Death Star made a sprawling film location into a set built around scenes and spaces rather than a single ship silhouette. LEGO’s retrospective treats it as a landmark in the subject’s set history; its significance should be kept distinct from later Death Star editions.
-
UCS Millennium Falcon 75192 (2017)
LEGO’s official history describes UCS Millennium Falcon 75192 as the biggest and most detailed Falcon up to that point. It represents the display-model end of the theme: a large-scale interpretation for builders who prioritize presence and surface detail over compact play.

Death Star (2016)
The 2016 Death Star is another take on the same cinematic setting, but it is a separate edition from the 2008 model. The recurring subject illustrates how LEGO Star Wars can revisit a familiar location for a new generation of builders without making the versions interchangeable.
-
Millennium Falcon 75375 (2024)
This anniversary-era Falcon is part of the long-running subject’s latest chapter within the 1999–2024 span. LEGO’s Falcon history documents the set, making it an apt pick for a retrospective that connects the launch years to the collaboration’s 25th anniversary.
-
Tantive IV anniversary-era releases (2024)
The 2024 anniversary lineup included two Tantive IV sets, reflecting the year’s effort to revisit recognizable Star Wars material in more than one format. The LEGO Group’s announcement also introduced a Starship Collection inspired by the Millennium Falcon and Invisible Hand, alongside an anniversary R2-D2 building set.
-
Invisible Hand Starship Collection model (2024)
The Invisible Hand was one of the ships named as inspiration for the 2024 Starship Collection. Its inclusion gives the anniversary slate a prequel-era subject alongside the familiar original-trilogy icons.

R2-D2 anniversary building set (2024)
R2-D2’s anniversary-era set put a character rather than a battle or vehicle at the center. That makes it a useful example of the range of LEGO Star Wars: the appeal can come from a memorable droid as much as from a ship.
The anniversary selection above is anchored to the official announcements and histories available for these products; it is not a claim that every popular set from 1999–2024 is represented. Fan retrospectives from Brick Fanatics staff and its 25-year retrospective likewise illustrate how such choices depend on taste and selection criteria.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the 25th anniversary says about the theme
The LEGO Group announced a year-long celebration in 2024, with anniversary products available from March 1 through LEGO stores, LEGO.com, and select retailers, according to StarWars.com; the Invisible Hand was noted as an exception to that distribution information. Those dates describe the historical launch period, not present-day stock.
The anniversary offered a cross-section of the collaboration’s strengths: recognizable ships, a character-centered build, and different scales suited to different kinds of builders. For the broader history, the Falcon and Death Star are especially revealing recurring subjects: each has been reinterpreted across releases, and each edition needs to be considered on its own merits rather than treated as one continuous model.
Quick Recap
Which LEGO Star Wars set should you choose?
- For a compact historical starting point: look to launch-era subjects such as the X-wing or TIE Advanced, which show how the original collaboration translated classic ships into LEGO form.
- For a character-led pick: Republic Gunship 7163 stands out because of Jedi Bob’s debut, while the 2024 R2-D2 set centers a beloved droid.
- For a display centerpiece: UCS Millennium Falcon 75192 is the clearest example here of an ambitious, detail-focused model. Check the official LEGO product information or a current retailer for present-day availability before planning a purchase.
- For a set tied to the 25th anniversary: consider the 2024 Falcon, Tantive IV releases, Invisible Hand Starship Collection model, or R2-D2 build, depending on whether you prefer ships or a character.
- For a personal favorite rather than a historical pick: choose the subject, scale, and building format that fit your space and budget. This retrospective does not establish current prices or stock.
