Rabb.it—often written as Rabbit—was more than a video synchronizer: it gave people a shared browser room where they could open websites, watch content, chat, and spend time together. Its replacements are therefore not interchangeable. Some synchronize a supported streaming service, some provide a shared browser, some focus on YouTube, and others work with local files or social video rooms.
The right choice depends mainly on where your video comes from, whether everyone has legitimate access to it, and whether you need synchronized playback or simply a screen to share.

22 Rabb.it alternatives, explained
1. Hyperbeam — the closest shared-browser replacement
Hyperbeam is the strongest first choice if what you miss about Rabb.it is the ability to open a browser together rather than simply press play at the same time. It provides a multiplayer web browser inside a virtual room. Participants can browse sites together, create playlists, chat, use audio or video calls, and pass control of the browser between people.
That server-side browser model is materially closer to the old Rabb.it experience than a browser extension that only synchronizes a supported player. It is especially useful when your group wants to visit an ordinary website, look through video pages, or use a service that is not covered by a narrow watch-party extension.
Hyperbeam is not a way around subscriptions, regional licensing, or a website’s access controls. The site must function in Hyperbeam, and each participant still needs whatever account or legal access the content requires.
2. Teleparty — best for major subscription streaming services
Teleparty is a practical option when everyone already subscribes to the same mainstream service. It synchronizes playback and adds group text chat for supported platforms including Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, Prime Video, YouTube, ESPN+, Crunchyroll, and Paramount+.

Teleparty is designed to synchronize supported streaming services, not to provide a general-purpose shared web browser. Each participant generally needs access to the relevant service, and the same title must be available in each viewer’s region. A title appearing in one person’s catalog does not guarantee that everyone can join.
3. Scener — best for hosted theaters and broad service coverage
Scener offers a more theater-like watch-party experience, with synchronized viewing and social interaction across several major services. Its documented service coverage includes Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max, Hotstar, Alamo On Demand, Shudder, Hulu, and Funimation. Scener also lists YouTube and Vimeo as services that do not require an account in its stated workflow.
Desktop hosts and viewers generally need Google Chrome and the Scener extension. Mobile participation is more limited, particularly for hosting and playback. Subscription and premium-account requirements vary by service, so confirm the requirements for the exact platform and title before inviting everyone.
Choose Scener over Teleparty if you want a more hosted, theater-like room or if its supported-service list better matches your group’s subscriptions.
4. Watch2Gether — simple rooms for YouTube and public video
Watch2Gether is one of the least complicated choices for a group watching public video. It provides synchronized playback, private rooms, integrated chat, shared playlists, and webcam support. Its official service highlights YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and SoundCloud, with other services potentially supported.
It works well for documentary clips, trailers, music videos, educational material, and other videos that everyone can access from a public source. It is less appropriate when the group is trying to coordinate a title locked inside a subscription service or protected by a platform that the room does not support.
5. Kast — a social room for watching and talking
Kast is a good match for groups that want the social hangout to matter as much as the video. It combines watch parties with real-time reactions, text chat, voice and video interaction, screen sharing, and webcam sharing.
Kast TV can stream movies, YouTube videos, and playlists from the cloud into a party. Kast’s broader party system also supports screen sharing, which gives you a fallback for content that is not available through Kast TV. The trade-off is that ordinary screen sharing is host-based: the host’s connection and playback determine what everyone sees, and protected streaming content may not display correctly.

That makes it appealing to people who would rather watch from a phone or tablet than configure a desktop browser extension.

Do not treat the list as a permanent guarantee. Supported services, individual titles, account rules, and country availability can change. Check that Rave supports both the desired source and your region before making it the centerpiece of a movie night.
7. Discord Watch Together — the easiest free YouTube option for Discord users
Discord’s Watch Together Activity synchronizes YouTube playback inside a Discord server, direct message, or group message. Participants can build a shared playlist and use the available playback controls while continuing to chat in the community app.
This is an excellent choice when your group already lives on Discord and wants to watch YouTube. It is not a general Netflix synchronizer or a universal replacement for Rabb.it’s browser. For subscription services, arbitrary websites, or local files, use a different option in this list.
8. Discord Go Live and Screen Share — the flexible fallback
If synchronization is not available, Discord can share an application window or an entire screen in a voice channel. Audio sharing is supported on desktop and mobile clients subject to platform limitations, and Discord’s support information states that up to 50 people can share video or a screen at one time in a voice chat.
This works for presentations, creator commentary, public video, and games, but it is not independent playback synchronization. The host is playing the content for everyone else. Protected streaming services may show a black screen or otherwise refuse to appear, and screen sharing can place more pressure on the host’s computer and upload connection.
9. FaceTime SharePlay — best for Apple-device groups
SharePlay lets people watch supported movies, shows, and live events in sync during a FaceTime call. Apple’s supported-app list includes Apple TV, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, Prime Video, Pluto TV, Crunchyroll, Shudder, MUBI, and other participating apps.
Each participant generally needs access to the content on their own device through a subscription or purchase. Regional restrictions, title availability, app support, and device requirements still apply. SharePlay is therefore convenient for an Apple-centered group, but it is not a way for one person’s subscription to grant everyone else access.
10. Apple TV SharePlay — a television-centered Apple option
Apple households can also start SharePlay from the Apple TV app and continue across supported Apple devices, including Apple TV hardware. This is particularly convenient when the group wants to move the viewing experience from phones or computers to a television.
The same conditions apply: the participating app must support SharePlay, devices must be compatible, and viewers may need their own access to the movie or show. It is best viewed as an Apple ecosystem feature rather than a standalone Rabb.it-style room.
11. Google Meet Live Share with YouTube — useful for Android groups
Google Meet and YouTube provide a Live Share workflow for watching YouTube videos together on Android devices. It makes sense for a group that already has a Meet call open and wants the video and conversation in one place.
Its scope is narrow. This is a YouTube viewing workflow, not a synchronized player for Netflix, every subscription service, or arbitrary websites. Confirm that the participants’ Android devices and current Meet app support the feature before relying on it.

Watch Party is unusually broad in the ways it can bring content into a room. It supports synchronized playback, chat, playlists, video chat, YouTube, direct video URLs, file upload or streaming, screen sharing, and a virtual-browser mode.
That range makes it useful for groups that move between YouTube, a direct video link, an authorized file, and ordinary browser viewing. The extra flexibility also means that the setup and behavior can differ depending on which input mode you choose. Test the exact source first, especially when using file playback or screen sharing.

13. Kosmi — free virtual hangouts with shared browsing
Kosmi combines watch parties with virtual-hangout features: shared browsing, screen sharing, link and file sharing, games, voice, video, and messaging. It runs in a browser without requiring downloads, which reduces friction for a mixed-device group.
Kosmi presents itself as usable with Netflix, YouTube, and other streaming services. The safest interpretation is “flexible shared-room platform,” not a promise that every streaming site will work in every country or browser. Test the intended service and remember that viewers remain responsible for their own access to the media.
14. Metastream — lightweight URL and queue synchronization
Metastream lets a host start a session, invite people with a friend code, add URLs to a queue, and watch with synchronized controls. It also provides real-time chat and timestamp markers, which can be useful for discussing a documentary or jumping to a particular moment.
Metastream says that a number of popular websites are supported, but its landing page does not present a permanent, exhaustive compatibility list. Treat it as a lightweight browser synchronizer and check whether the exact website works before organizing a large group session.
15. Syncplay — best for the same local video file
Syncplay is the right tool when every participant has the same legally owned or otherwise authorized video file. It synchronizes compatible media players over the internet, including pausing, resuming, and seeking, while everyone plays the file locally on their own computer.
The project recommends mpv or mpv.net for the best compatibility. You create or join a shared room, open the same file in a supported player, and use Syncplay’s synchronized controls. Syncplay does not provide the movie, bypass a streaming service, or solve the problem of obtaining a file legally.
Syncplay also recommends using separate voice-over-IP software, such as Mumble or Skype, for conversation. That separation is less seamless than an all-in-one social app, but it gives you reliable playback synchronization for local media.
16. Plex Watch Together — include only with a major availability warning
Plex Watch Together can synchronize playback from a Plex Media Server and Plex’s free Movies & TV service, with shared playback controls. It may look like an obvious Rabb.it alternative for people who maintain a personal media library.
Important dated warning: Plex announced on February 25, 2025, that Watch Together was being removed from most platforms as Plex introduced a new experience, while remaining available in the web app for the foreseeable future. Availability may therefore depend on the platform you use. Do not build a group event around Plex Watch Together without checking Plex’s current support information and testing the web app or device first.
17. Plex remote personal-media sharing — an alternative workflow, not a party app
A Plex server owner can share individual movies, shows, episodes, or playlists with other Plex accounts. This can provide authorized remote access to personal media, but it does not by itself guarantee synchronized playback.
Recommended Free Tools
You may need a separate supported synchronization method or a coordinated countdown after everyone has access. Plex’s current remote-playback rules can also involve Plex Pass or Remote Watch Pass, depending on the account and server configuration. Treat this as a way to distribute authorized personal media, not as a direct replacement for a watch-party room.
18. Watch2Gether app — the mobile route into Watch2Gether
The Watch2Gether app is the mobile-oriented way to join rooms, host parties, chat, and use the Watch2Gether ecosystem from a phone or tablet. Its core value remains synchronized playback, private rooms, playlists, and communication.
It should not be treated as a completely separate service from the website. Choose the app when your group is mobile-first, but expect the same general source and compatibility considerations as the browser experience.

19. Rave mobile app — phone-based watch parties
Rave’s mobile app is a particularly natural choice for people who want to watch together from phones or tablets. It combines shared playback with text and voice chat instead of requiring participants to assemble a browser extension, separate voice call, and video player.

As with the broader Rave service, verify the current supported catalog, title rights, account requirements, and geographic availability. A service listed as supported may still have different titles or playback rules in different countries.
20. Kast TV — Kast’s built-in virtual-TV mode
Kast TV is a specific mode within Kast rather than a separate company or independent Rabb.it alternative. Kast says it can stream movies, YouTube videos, and playlists from the cloud into a party without requiring every viewer to use ordinary screen sharing.
Use Kast TV when you want Kast’s social room but prefer a more controlled shared-playback setup. If the source is unavailable in Kast TV, ordinary Kast screen sharing may be a fallback, subject to the limitations of host-based sharing and protected content.
21. A shared countdown and an ordinary voice or video call
The lowest-tech solution is sometimes the most dependable. Everyone opens the same content through their own legitimate access, joins a FaceTime, Discord, Google Meet, Zoom, or another call, counts down, and presses play together.
This is not true synchronization. People may drift by a few seconds, buffering can affect viewers differently, and one person cannot reliably pause everyone else. Still, it is a valid fallback when browser extensions fail, participants use incompatible devices, or the desired service is not supported by a watch-party platform.
22. YouTube Premiere or a private live stream with chat
For a video that the organizer is authorized to show, a YouTube Premiere or private/live event can give participants a common playback page and live chat. This is a good fit for creator events, documentary commentary, educational sessions, or media the host owns or has permission to present.
It is not an appropriate method for rebroadcasting a subscription movie without permission. Google Meet can also stream a meeting to YouTube for eligible Workspace editions, but that workflow has eligibility and live-streaming requirements. Check the current YouTube and Google Workspace rules before using it for an event.

If you want the old Rabb.it feeling
- Try Hyperbeam first for a shared browser, collaborative browsing, and control handoff.
- Try Kosmi if you also want games, voice, video, and a broader virtual-hangout environment.
- Try Watch Party if you need several ways to bring in content, including URLs, files, screen sharing, or a virtual browser.
If you want to watch Netflix or another subscription service
- Choose Teleparty when everyone already has access to the same supported service.
- Choose Scener when its theater-style experience and service coverage are a better match.
- Choose FaceTime SharePlay if everyone uses Apple devices and the desired app supports SharePlay.
- Consider Rave for a mobile-first group, but verify the current service and regional catalog first.
None of these tools should be assumed to bypass regional licensing, title restrictions, or account requirements. In most cases, every viewer needs access to the same content.

Watch2Gether is the straightforward standalone option. Discord Watch Together is convenient for an existing Discord community, while Google Meet Live Share is useful for Android users already meeting in Google Meet. YouTube Premiere is better when the organizer owns or is authorized to present the video to an audience.
If everyone has the same local file
Use Syncplay. It is more dependable for local files than trying to force a streaming-service tool to handle content it was not designed to play. Pair it with a separate voice call for conversation.
If the group is watching on a television
Apple users should investigate Apple TV SharePlay. Plex users should be cautious: Watch Together was announced for removal from most platforms, with the web app remaining the notable exception at the time of Plex’s February 25, 2025 notice.
A television can improve comfort, but it does not solve compatibility. A watch-party streaming device or home Wi-Fi for streaming may help if several people are watching locally, but the service still needs to support the chosen devices and source.

If the party is mostly conversation and reactions
Choose Kast, Rave, or Kosmi. These are better than a bare synchronizer when participants want voice, video, reactions, games, or a persistent virtual room.
Practical setup checklist
- Identify the source. Is it YouTube, a supported subscription service, a local file, a Plex library, or an ordinary website?
- Check access. Make sure everyone can legally watch the title in their country and has any required subscription, purchase, or account.
- Check devices. Confirm browser, extension, operating-system, mobile, and television requirements before the event.
- Test the exact title. A platform may support a service in general while a particular title, region, or playback mode behaves differently.
- Choose the communication channel. Built-in text chat may be enough; voice or video usually makes social viewing better.
- Reduce audio problems. A webcam for watch parties is useful for video reactions, while headphones to avoid echo can prevent the host’s playback from feeding back through several microphones.
- Have a fallback. Keep a Discord, FaceTime, or other call ready for a synchronized countdown or screen-share attempt if the main service fails.
Common problems and what to try
The video is a black screen
This commonly occurs with protected streaming content during screen sharing. Try the service’s supported synchronization option instead of screen sharing, or use an approved app-based feature such as SharePlay if the service supports it. Do not assume that changing browsers or disabling protections is an appropriate workaround.
One person cannot join or cannot see the title
Check regional availability, account status, subscription level, age restrictions, and whether the title is available in the same catalog for every participant. A host’s access does not automatically give other viewers access.
Playback keeps drifting
Use a platform with actual synchronized controls rather than a countdown. For local files, confirm that everyone has the same file and use Syncplay. For a screen share, drift is expected because the group is watching one host’s broadcast rather than controlling synchronized players.
The extension or app does not work on a phone
