It is a publisher-curated selection, not an objectively ranked list—and one item is credited to Bob Is Here To Explain, not Elon Musk. The examples range from compact wordplay to absurd scenarios and self-mockery.
The excerpts below are reproduced as Interesting Engineering presents them, with the dates and attribution supplied by that article. They have not been independently verified against original X posts here. Several entries rely on images or reply context the article does not fully reproduce, so those details are kept narrow.
Absurd scenarios and over-the-top declarations
1. A flamethrower for the zombie apocalypse — January 28, 2018
In the context of The Boring Company’s flamethrower promotion, the article reproduces Musk’s mock-serious pitch: “When the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll be glad you bought a flamethrower. Works against hordes of the undead or your money back!” A follow-up escalates the bit: “The rumor that I’m secretly creating a zombie apocalypse to generate demand for flamethrowers is completely false”. The joke plays on an implausible threat and the language of a sales guarantee; it is not evidence of present-day product availability.
2. Buying Coca-Cola — April 28, 2022
“Next I’m buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in”. The deliberately outrageous line reads as exaggeration, not a serious announcement of a planned purchase.
#1 Best Overall
3. Earth as a hollow globe — April 5, 2021
“The Earth is not flat, it’s a hollow globe & Donkey King lives there!” The absurdity is the point; this is a joke, not a factual claim about Earth.
4. A “Good point” reply — July 17, 2018
The roundup connects Musk’s short reply, “Good point”, to a Lane Roberts post advising him about his Twitter use. The linked exchange is not fully reproduced, so the phrase is best read as a brief reply rather than a joke with a fully established setup.
Wordplay and quick reversals
5. Alcohol as a solution — July 21, 2019
“Technically, alcohol is a solution”. The line hinges on the chemistry meaning of “solution” as well as its everyday sense of an answer to a problem.
6. The ceiling and the floor — June 29, 2017
“A ceiling is simply a floor from below”. The joke turns an ordinary object into a matter of perspective with a single reversal.
7. A factory measured in hamsters — July 30, 2016
“Gigafactory in units of hamster” accompanied a graphic. Interesting Engineering describes it as a way to convey scale, but the article’s text does not establish the graphic’s dimensions or exact comparison.
Self-deprecation and jokes about the joke
8. “Dad jokes” — February 16, 2017
“Apparently, there is this thing called ‘Dad jokes’ and I make them”. The self-aware admission makes the familiar groan-worthy style part of the punchline.
9. “I’m pretty weird” — May 9, 2018
“Don’t want to blow your mind, but I’m pretty weird. It’s time the world knew.” The roundup presents this as self-deprecating humor: the grand announcement is about an ungrand confession.
10. Teslaquila and a “forward-looking statement” — April 1, 2018
The April Fools’ post describes Musk passed out against a Tesla Model 3 among bottles labeled “Teslaquilla”. It ends: “This is not a forward-looking statement, because, obviously, what’s the point?” and “Happy New Month!” The gag mixes a deliberately ridiculous scene with the formal language associated with company statements.

The roundup includes an image link and says the post related to a dispute over Twitter bot transparency. Since the image’s visual details are not represented in the article’s text, the meme itself cannot be described more specifically from that account.

Platform jokes and knowing exaggeration
12. “Comedy is now legal on Twitter” — October 28, 2022
Published after Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, the line is framed by Interesting Engineering as a joke about the platform. It is a dated quip, not a description of current platform policy.
13. A “💯” reply — October 8, 2022
The roundup offers only the “💯” emoji and characterizes it as Musk agreeing with himself. It does not identify the post to which he was replying, so the missing exchange should not be filled in by guesswork.
14. “How much is it?” — December 21, 2017
That is the complete text supplied for this entry. The article frames it as Musk professing love for Twitter, but provides too little context to confidently explain the occasion.

15. CGI — February 17, 2017
“It’s much easier to do the CGI that way”. Interesting Engineering says the line teases claims that SpaceX launches were faked. That interpretation belongs to the roundup; the excerpt itself is brief.
One entry that is not Musk’s
16. The LMFAO test for AI — April 29, 2023
The roundup attributes this post to Bob Is Here To Explain (@ExplainThisBob), not Musk: “This is a suggestion for a new test to see how smart Artificial Intelligence (AI) is. It is called the LMFAO test.” It belongs in the collection as presented by Interesting Engineering, but should not be credited to Musk.
What this collection captures
The roundup’s appeal is its variety: absurd premises, wordplay, self-mockery, exaggeration, and at least one visual gag. Its examples span 2016–2023 even though the matching Interesting Engineering article by Hüseyin Kılıç is dated July 27, 2018. The collection is therefore best understood as a retrospective selection, not a list published wholly in 2018 or a definitive ranking of Musk’s funniest posts.
