There is no official or universal ranking of Fleetwood Mac’s songs. This editorial list weighs songwriting and lyrical identity, distinctive vocals and arrangements, and each track’s place in the band’s lasting catalog. It spans the band’s catalog, with the classic Rumours-era lineup at its center.
What are Fleetwood Mac’s best songs?
- “Dreams”
Stevie Nicks’s composition makes restraint feel like a hook: a steady, unhurried groove leaves room for the vocal to carry the song’s complicated emotional pull. It is a defining example of Fleetwood Mac turning tension into atmosphere. Nicks is credited as its writer on the band’s official Rumours track listing.

The song’s changing sections give it a collective force that few tracks in the catalog match. Its writing credit is unusual among the Rumours songs on this list: the official album page credits all five members of the lineup. The famous closing bass passage makes the build feel earned rather than merely dramatic.
- “Go Your Own Way”
Lindsey Buckingham turns a breakup into a taut, propulsive rock song. The sharpness of the lyric sits against a bright, driving arrangement, creating a tension that helps explain why it remains one of the central Rumours-era singles. Buckingham is credited as its writer on the official album listing.

- “Landslide”
“Landslide” is quieter and more exposed than the band’s best-known rock songs. Nicks’s reflection on change and uncertainty rests on a spare acoustic arrangement, making the performance feel intimate without needing a large production. Its inclusion on the band’s official Greatest Hits 2LP reflects its enduring place in the catalog.
- “Rhiannon”
A Nicks-led song with an instantly recognizable vocal presence, “Rhiannon” brings a sense of mystery to a direct, memorable rock arrangement. It appears on both the official Greatest Hits CD and 2LP, placing it among the tracks selected to represent the band across eras.
- “Songbird”
Christine McVie’s piano ballad needs little beyond its melody and voice. Its spare setting gives the song an unusually personal scale within a band known for intricate arrangements and interwoven parts. The official Rumours listing credits McVie as its writer.
Rank #2
Greatest Hits (Deluxe Edition)- Your favorite artist, Fleetwood Mac, on CD.
- “You Make Loving Fun”
McVie gives this Rumours track a buoyant, openhearted feel, with a bright rhythm that makes the song move easily without overpowering its melody. It is one of the album’s clearest expressions of her gift for concise, welcoming pop songwriting. The official album page credits McVie; the song also appears on the Greatest Hits 2LP.

As the closing track on Rumours, “Gold Dust Woman” leaves the album on an unsettled, atmospheric note. Nicks’s writing and vocal delivery make the song feel less like a conventional finale than a spell being cast. The official album track listing confirms her songwriting credit.
- “Never Going Back Again”
Buckingham’s compact acoustic performance is a showcase of precision: intricate guitar work and a light, quick vocal keep the track nimble rather than showy. Its brevity is part of its appeal; the arrangement makes a distinctive impression and then gets out of its own way.
Rank #3
- “Don’t Stop”
McVie’s forward-looking lyric gives this Rumours hit an unusually optimistic edge. Its piano-led momentum and straightforward chorus make it one of the band’s most immediately approachable songs, while the official Greatest Hits track list places it among the group’s enduring staples.
- “Silver Springs”
Nicks’s song brings an unresolved emotional charge that makes it a natural companion to the best-known Rumours material. It was included on the expanded Rumours track listing, and a live version appears on the official Greatest Hits 2LP. The song’s place here recognizes a powerful piece of the band’s story without confusing the expanded listing with the original album sequence.

From a later chapter of the band’s career, “Everywhere” shows McVie’s knack for making romantic pop feel light and finely crafted. Its polished, buoyant sound differs from Rumours-era tension, and its inclusion on the official Greatest Hits CD helps the ranking reach beyond the best-known classic lineup period.
Rank #4
Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits- Fleetwood Mac
- Grestest Hits
- “Tusk”
“Tusk” is Fleetwood Mac at its most adventurous in this selection: percussion pushes the track forward, while its arrangement resists the smoothness of the band’s more conventional hits. It appears on both official Greatest Hits formats, a reminder that the group’s identity includes experimentation as well as radio-ready songwriting.
- “Say You Love Me”
Another McVie composition, “Say You Love Me” has a warm, direct melody and an easygoing groove. It represents the early Buckingham-Nicks era while retaining the melodic clarity that runs through McVie’s writing. It is included on the official Greatest Hits CD and 2LP.
- “Little Lies”
“Little Lies” brings the list into Fleetwood Mac’s polished later pop sound. Its layered production and memorable chorus give it a different character from the band’s rawer or more intimate songs, while McVie’s songwriting keeps the track firmly melodic. It appears on both official Greatest Hits formats.

Why this ranking includes more than Rumours
Fleetwood Mac’s catalog is shaped by several distinct songwriting voices, especially Nicks, Buckingham, and McVie. The official Rumours credits make those differences visible: many songs are individually credited, while “The Chain” credits all five members of the classic lineup. A list drawn only from one album would miss the contrast between Nicks’s atmospheric writing, Buckingham’s guitar-driven intensity, and McVie’s melodic directness, as well as the band’s later work.
The official Greatest Hits CD includes tracks from different periods, including “Rhiannon,” “Dreams,” “Tusk,” “Everywhere,” and “Little Lies.” The 2LP includes other selections such as “Landslide,” “The Chain,” and “You Make Loving Fun.” Those compilations show which songs were selected for commercial collections; they do not establish an objective ranking.
Which Fleetwood Mac song is the best?
If one song has to lead this list, “Dreams” is the pick: it distills the band’s blend of strong songwriting, a distinctive vocal, and an arrangement that makes space rather than crowding the song. But the answer depends on what a listener values. “The Chain” is the most collective statement here, “Landslide” the most intimate, and “Tusk” the clearest break from the band’s smoother hits. Listener discussion reflects that personal disagreement, not a settled consensus; the question “What’s Fleetwood Mac’s Best song??” is itself a prompt for varied answers.
