It does confirm several individual ratings, including a reported 4.75 stars for the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 and 4.5 stars for Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series 1992. Those are useful reference points, not a complete all-time ranking.
Why a definitive 14-match list cannot be verified
A list attributed to Meltzer needs a source for each match and score, ideally the dated issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in which the rating appeared. The available reproductions establish some Survivor Series ratings, but not 14 entries or their order. Filling the gaps with popular matches would risk attributing scores Meltzer may not have given them.

The scores below are reported by secondary sources rather than checked against the original newsletter issues. Meltzer’s star ratings are a critic’s published judgments, not WWE’s official rankings or objective measurements of match quality.
Survivor Series matches with reported Meltzer ratings
| Event | Match | Reported rating | What the evidence establishes |

The table is a set of sourced examples, not a claim that these are Meltzer’s eight highest-rated Survivor Series matches. The available reports do not establish a complete historical sample or a ranked top 14.

- WWE SURVIVOR SERIES ANTH 1987-1991 VOL 1 (DVD MOVIE)
Which Survivor Series match has the highest reported rating here?
The men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 has the highest reported score among these examples: 4.75 stars. That does not establish it as Meltzer’s highest-rated Survivor Series match ever; the evidence available here is not comprehensive.
How to interpret these ratings
- They are critical opinions. A star score records Meltzer’s judgment, not an official WWE award or a universal measure of quality.
- Check the source level. The scores above come from secondary reproductions, not direct inspection of the original Wrestling Observer Newsletter issues.
- Separate match facts from ratings. WWE’s historical results archive can verify participants, stipulations, and outcomes; it does not provide Meltzer’s ratings.
- Do not assume a searchable database is complete. A ratings database describes its records as Wrestling Observer Newsletter ratings and offers filters, while noting that its historical archive is still being expanded and checked.
Survivor Series 1992: a match with a home-video history
Hart vs. Michaels is one of the confirmed examples, and the event also has a documented physical-media release history: Survivor Series 1992 was released on VHS in North America and later on DVD in the UK as part of WWE Tagged Classics. That history does not establish current availability, the condition of any listing, or regional compatibility. WWE’s results archive confirms the match and result, but it does not establish current streaming access.
