Catalogs also change by country and licensing agreement.
The services below are legal options. They do not all offer complete seasons, every language track, or the newest releases. Before choosing one, check whether it works in your region and whether the title you want is actually included at no cost.
Best free anime websites
1. Tubi
Tubi is one of the easiest places to start in the United States. It offers free, ad-supported streaming without requiring a subscription or credit card. Its anime selection has included Death Note, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hunter × Hunter, and titles from the Naruto franchise.
Open a title page and look for Play Now, Episodes, You May Also Like, and Details. Tubi is a good choice when you want to select a particular episode rather than wait for a scheduled broadcast. The catalog differs by country.

2. Pluto TV
Pluto TV combines free live television with on-demand programming. The web interface is organized around Live TV, On Demand, and Search. Its lineup can include branded or genre-based anime channels, including channels associated with Naruto.
Pluto TV suits viewers who enjoy channel surfing. It is less convenient when you want to begin a specific episode immediately, and its channel lineup can change without notice. Expect advertising.
3. RetroCrush
RetroCrush focuses on older anime, especially titles from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. It has a free ad-supported tier as well as paid plans, making it a strong destination for classic, cult, and historically important series.
Not every title in the RetroCrush library is free. If a show is locked, it may require a subscription rather than simply an account.
4. Anime-Planet
Anime-Planet offers legally licensed episodes through industry partnerships. Its bigger strength is organization: users can discover series, track what they are watching, and build watchlists in the same place.
The watch page includes filters such as Name, Popular, My Tags, My Watching, My Want to Watch, Updated, All, and Dubbed. It is useful for finding free episodes, but it is not a complete substitute for a large anime subscription service.
5. Hoopla
Hoopla provides ad-free streaming, borrowing, and downloads through participating public libraries. A valid library card is normally required, and your library determines the available catalog and monthly borrowing limits.

6. Kanopy
Kanopy is another library- and university-backed service. It is ad-free, but you must find a participating institution and sign in with the required library or university credentials.
Kanopy’s anime selection is usually narrower and more library-dependent than Hoopla’s. It is worth checking if you already have access, but it should not be assumed that every public library offers the same titles.
7. Plex
Plex offers free, ad-supported live television in supported regions without requiring a Plex Pass. Its lineup has included Anime 24/7 and other anime-oriented channels.
Plex is best for scheduled viewing. Because of licensing restrictions, live channels generally cannot be paused, rewound, or fast-forwarded. If you need full on-demand control, Tubi or a library service may be a better fit.
8. The Roku Channel
The Roku Channel carries free, ad-supported shows, movies, and live channels on the web and through Roku devices, compatible smart TVs, mobile apps, Fire TV, and Google TV.
Anime availability depends heavily on the channel lineup and region. Pay attention to whether a program is marked free or belongs to a premium channel. A free trial for a premium service can become a paid subscription if it is not canceled in time.

9. Adult Swim
Adult Swim makes selected episodes available without a cable login. Episodes showing a key icon require provider authentication; episodes without that icon can be streamed without signing in.
The directory has included anime such as Naruto, One Piece, Blue Exorcist, The Promised Neverland, DAN DA DAN, Blue Lock, and Sailor Moon. This is a useful source for selected episodes and Adult Swim programming, but it does not guarantee free access to every full season.
10. Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll should be treated as a mixed option rather than a completely free anime website. Eligible Premium plans may include a seven-day free trial, and the release calendar identifies some Free New Episodes.
The trial requires a payment method and normally converts to a paid membership unless canceled before it ends. Canceling during the trial ends Premium access immediately, so check the renewal date in your account. The full Crunchyroll library is not free.
11. VIZ Media on YouTube
The official VIZ Media YouTube channel publishes licensed anime material, clips, and sometimes complete episodes. VIZ’s streaming guide has identified YouTube as a platform for series including Naruto, Death Note, Inuyasha, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Do not assume that every series listed by VIZ is fully available at no cost on YouTube. Episode access, subtitles, dubs, and regional availability vary by title and country.

Uploads are governed by territory-specific licenses. A series may be available in one country, unavailable in another, or removed after a licensing window closes.
13. Muse Asia on YouTube
Muse Asia is an official distributor channel offering licensed anime uploads in selected Asian territories. Some videos are free, while others may be unavailable outside the licensed markets.
Viewers in Southeast Asia should check the channel directly for current availability. U.S. access should not be assumed, and geo-blocking is a normal part of the service.
14. Ani-One Asia on YouTube
Ani-One Asia provides licensed anime programming in selected Asian markets. Its channel may contain free episodes and videos, but some content is restricted to members or specific territories.
Check the video description and playback page before planning a full series around it. Availability can differ even between neighboring countries.
15. Bilibili
Bilibili’s international site includes a Free anime category alongside paid and membership content. Official availability is concentrated in Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Account requirements, subtitles, and regional access vary. Bilibili can be a strong legal option in supported markets, but it is not a dependable free-anime source everywhere.

How to check whether a “free” anime site is legitimate
- Identify the distributor. Look for a recognizable service, broadcaster, library platform, or official publisher channel.
- Check the title page. Confirm that the show is available in your country and that the episode is marked free rather than trial-only or premium.
- Read the account and billing terms. A service that requests payment details may be offering a trial, not permanently free access.
- Watch for suspicious behavior. Multiple forced redirects, fake download buttons, aggressive notification prompts, and “every new episode instantly” claims are warning signs.
- Do not use unofficial mirrors as a substitute for licensing. A site offering a large current catalog does not prove that it has permission to distribute those shows.
Unofficial aggregator sites are often described as free anime services because they collect links or streams from many sources. That does not make them legal or safe. For example, the U.S. Trade Representative’s 2025 Notorious Markets report identified HiAnime-related domains as reported piracy sites. Legal services may have smaller catalogs, advertisements, or regional restrictions, but those limitations are preferable to treating an unidentified stream as authorized.
FAQ
What is the best completely free anime website?
For free, on-demand anime in supported regions, Tubi is one of the strongest starting points. Pluto TV and Plex are better for free live channels, while Hoopla and Kanopy are better if you have access through a participating library.
Can I watch anime free without creating an account?
Sometimes. Tubi does not require a subscription or credit card, and Adult Swim allows selected episodes without a cable login. Other services may require an account, library credentials, or a payment method for a trial.
Is Crunchyroll free?
Only partially. Crunchyroll may offer selected free new episodes and eligible seven-day Premium trials, but its entire library is not free. A trial requires a payment method and can become a paid subscription unless canceled before renewal.

Anime rights are licensed by territory, and streaming agreements differ between countries. A title may also be limited to subtitles, a dub, a paid tier, a library network, or a temporary licensing window.
The Bottom Line
Start with Tubi for free on-demand anime, Pluto TV or Plex for live channels, RetroCrush for older shows, and Hoopla or Kanopy if your library provides access. Official YouTube distributor channels are worthwhile for title-specific and regional releases. Treat free trials as temporary promotions, and avoid sites that cannot identify a legitimate distributor or license.
