That is fourteen episodes, so this guide instead selects exactly 13: episodes 9, 12, 14, 21, 23, 24, 29, 30, 39, 40, 47, 48, 49, and 50 are fourteen; the recommended set below omits episode 9. This is an editorial refresher, not an official required-watch list. It prioritizes character motives and plot threads that lead into the post-Shibuya transition, Yuta’s return, Tengen’s briefing, and the Culling Game’s rules. Episode numbering and synopses can be checked in the official episode catalog.
Which Jujutsu Kaisen episodes should I rewatch before the Culling Game?
These 13 episodes form a fuller refresher, not a claim that every detail of the story is covered. The earlier choices revisit key character and conflict setup; episodes 47–50 bring the story directly into the aftermath of Shibuya and the Culling Game briefing.

- Episode 12 — “To You, Someday.” Revisit Yuji’s first major confrontation with Mahito and the personal stakes that shape his response to later violence. Check the official episode catalog for its synopsis.
- Episode 14 — “Kyoto Sister-School Exchange Event — Group Battle 0.” This resumes the exchange event and foregrounds the students and alliances who remain part of the wider fight against curses. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 21 — “Jujutsu Koshien.” A useful character refresher after the exchange-event battles: it returns attention to the students as a group rather than only to the combatants’ techniques. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 23 — “The Origin of Blind Obedience 2.” Rewatch the investigation involving Megumi, Yuji and Nobara; it shows the team’s working dynamic before the later crises divide and regroup them. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 24 — “The Origin of Blind Obedience 3.” This completes that mission and gives Megumi a pivotal personal beat, making it useful context for the choices he faces later. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 29 — “Growth.” Revisit the start of the Death Painting arc, which brings Yuji, Nobara and Megumi together on a mission tied to the larger curse threat. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 30 — “It’s Like That.” The episode shifts focus to Yuji and Nobara and gives their bond room to register between major fights. That emotional texture helps make the later losses and pressures land. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 39 — “Fluctuations.” This opens the Shibuya Incident and establishes the scale of the operation that changes the balance of the story. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 40 — “Fluctuations, Part 2.” Continue into the unfolding Shibuya operation; it helps restore the sequence of events before the aftermath episodes. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 47 — “Culling Game.” Rewatch the end of the Shibuya run and the immediate shift toward the new conflict. It is the bridge into the post-Shibuya episodes that follow. See the official episode catalog.
- Episode 48 — “Execution.” This is the direct post-Shibuya transition: Yuji and Choso hunt curses, Naoya attacks, and Yuta arrives with the stated role of Yuji’s executioner. The official episode 48 synopsis establishes those developments.
- Episode 49 — “The Perfect Preparation.” The confrontation continues: Yuji has been stabbed by Yuta, Choso fights Naoya, and Yuta later appears with Yuji’s body. Rewatch it to understand the immediate stakes and the shift in Yuji’s position, as summarized by the official episode 49 synopsis.
- Episode 50 — “About the Culling Game.” Yuji’s group seeks answers from Tengen about unsealing Gojo, Kenjaku’s aims, and the Culling Game. It is the essential rules-and-motivations briefing before the new arc’s colony battles; see the official episode 50 synopsis.
What happened after the Shibuya Incident?
Episodes 48–50 establish the immediate handoff. Yuji’s status is in question after Yuta’s attack; Choso and Naoya are still in conflict; then the group turns to Tengen for answers about Gojo and Kenjaku. The official franchise story overview describes the Culling Game as a deadly contest involving people granted cursed techniques and manipulated by Kenjaku. It also summarizes Yuji’s encounter with Higuruma in Tokyo Colony No. 1, Megumi’s encounter with Reggie Star, and Yuta’s battles in Sendai.
The official Culling Game chronology and rules is useful alongside episode 50: the briefing supplies the story context, while the overview lays out the contest’s rules and chronology. The arc is not simply a sequence of unrelated fights; its rules and Kenjaku’s plan shape why characters enter the colonies and what they must do there.

Do I need to watch Jujutsu Kaisen 0 before the Culling Game?
This 13-episode television refresher does not include Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The chosen episodes take you through the anime’s post-Shibuya transition and its Culling Game briefing, but they are not a substitute for Yuta’s earlier story in the film. If you want the fuller character context for Yuta before his return in episode 48, watch the film as an optional companion; the official episode synopses cited here do not designate it as a required prerequisite.
