The best wedding reception entrance song creates an immediate celebratory cue, works with the couple’s entrance timing, and reflects the couple instead of merely copying a standard wedding playlist. Here are 120 options—separate from ceremony processional, recessional, first-dance, and reception-exit songs—followed by the practical details that help the DJ execute the moment cleanly.

120 wedding reception entrance songs, organized by the mood you want

The best wedding reception entrance song creates an immediate celebratory cue, gives everyone time to recognize that the newlyweds or wedding party are entering, and sounds like a choice the couple would make even outside the wedding. Start by matching the track to your entrance format: a single-couple entrance can build toward a dramatic chorus, while a larger wedding-party entrance usually works better with a clear beat and a repeatable hook.

This list is specifically for the reception grand entrance—not the ceremony processional, ceremony recessional, first dance, or reception exit. The Knot treats the wedding-party entrance and newlywed entrance as separate planning moments, so you can use one song for the entire entrance or assign different cues to each group. Its reception-entrance collection and playlist include examples such as “Kiss Me,” “24K Magic,” “Crazy in Love,” “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love),” and “Let’s Get It Started.” See The Knot’s reception entrance guidance.

Quick picks by wedding style

What you want Start with Why it works
Best overall “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” — Natalie Cole Instantly joyful, romantic, and easy to recognize.
Best classic “September” — Earth, Wind & Fire A familiar dance groove that gets the room moving immediately.
Best romantic “Marry You” — Bruno Mars Lighthearted, direct, and celebratory without feeling overly formal.
Best funny “The Imperial March” — John Williams A theatrical fake-out that works especially well for a playful couple.
Best country “From This Moment On” — Shania Twain A clearly wedding-centered country love song with a strong vocal lift.
Best hip-hop “Yeah!” — Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris High-energy swagger for a confident, party-first entrance.
Best rock “Don’t Stop Me Now” — Queen Big, exuberant, and instantly suited to a group entrance.
Best unique choice “Dog Days Are Over” — Florence + the Machine Cinematic and distinctive, with a powerful feeling of release.
Best clean-cut party song “Shut Up and Dance” — Walk the Moon A broadly accessible, upbeat option with a clear chorus.

Romantic and joyful wedding entrance songs

  1. “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” — Natalie Cole
  2. “Kiss Me” — Sixpence None the Richer
  3. “Marry You” — Bruno Mars
  4. “You Make My Dreams (Come True)” — Daryl Hall & John Oates
  5. “Best Day of My Life” — American Authors
  6. “I Choose You” — Sara Bareilles
  7. “Love on Top” — Beyoncé
  8. “Paper Rings” — Taylor Swift
  9. “L-O-V-E” — Nat King Cole
  10. “You Are the Best Thing” — Ray LaMontagne
  11. “I Do” — Colbie Caillat
  12. “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” — Stevie Wonder

Choose this group when you want the entrance to feel affectionate and unmistakably celebratory rather than like a nightclub arrival. “Love on Top,” “Paper Rings,” and “You Make My Dreams (Come True)” are particularly useful when you want movement as well as romance.

Big, upbeat entrances

  3. “Let’s Get It Started” — The Black Eyed Peas
  4. “I Gotta Feeling” — The Black Eyed Peas

  6. “Uptown Funk” — Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars
  7. “Shut Up and Dance” — Walk the Moon
  8. “Good as Hell” — Lizzo
  9. “Levitating” — Dua Lipa
  10. “Raise Your Glass” — P!nk
  11. “Walking on Sunshine” — Katrina and the Waves
  12. “A Sky Full of Stars” — Coldplay

These tracks announce “the party has started” within seconds. They are strong choices for a wedding party entering in pairs or groups, provided the venue’s sound system can reproduce their bass and the chosen recording is appropriate for your guests.

Modern pop and dance

  1. “Just Dance” — Lady Gaga featuring Colby O’Donis
  2. “Shake It Off” — Taylor Swift
  3. “Dynamite” — BTS
  4. “Don’t Start Now” — Dua Lipa
  5. “Higher Love” — Kygo and Whitney Houston
  6. “Rain on Me” — Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande
  7. “On Top of the World” — Imagine Dragons
  8. “Feel So Close” — Calvin Harris
  9. “Rather Be” — Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne
  10. “Best Song Ever” — One Direction
  11. “Classic” — MKTO
  12. “Geronimo” — Sheppard

For a current pop-oriented reception, the key is not simply choosing a recent song. Pick a track with an obvious opening, a dependable beat, and a chorus that arrives before the entrance is over. “Levitating,” “Dynamite,” and “Higher Love” also offer dance-floor momentum after the formal welcome.

Classic crowd-pleasers

  1. “September” — Earth, Wind & Fire
  2. “Celebration” — Kool & the Gang
  3. “Dancing in the Moonlight” — King Harvest
  4. “You’re the One That I Want” — John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John
  5. “Don’t Stop Believin’” — Journey
  6. “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” — Stevie Wonder
  7. “For Once in My Life” — Stevie Wonder
  8. “All Night Long (All Night)” — Lionel Richie
  9. “Lovely Day” — Bill Withers
  10. “I’m a Believer” — The Monkees
  11. “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” — ABBA
  12. “Dancing Queen” — ABBA

Classic songs are useful when your guest list spans several generations. Their familiarity reduces the need for a long introduction, but check the venue and audience before choosing a track with a more suggestive or otherwise distracting lyrical theme.

Soul, Motown, and R&B

  1. “At Last” — Etta James
  2. “Let’s Stay Together” — Al Green
  3. “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” — Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
  4. “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” — Natalie Cole
  5. “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” — Stevie Wonder
  6. “My Girl” — The Temptations
  7. “Best of My Love” — The Emotions
  8. “Love Train” — The O’Jays
  9. “Lovely Day” — Bill Withers
  10. “Rock with You” — Michael Jackson
  11. “The Way You Make Me Feel” — Michael Jackson
  12. “Back at One” — Brian McKnight

This section ranges from slow-burn romance to full dance-floor warmth. “At Last” and “Back at One” may suit a short, couple-only entrance; “Love Train,” “Best of My Love,” and “Rock with You” give a larger wedding party room to move.

  2. “Get Low” — Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz featuring Ying Yang Twins
  3. “Party Up (Up in Here)” — DMX
  4. “Empire State of Mind” — Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys
  5. “Public Service Announcement (Interlude)” — Jay-Z
  6. “The Next Episode” — Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg
  7. “Jump Around” — House of Pain
  8. “Lose Yourself” — Eminem
  9. “Remember the Name” — Fort Minor
  10. “Good Life” — Kanye West featuring T-Pain
  11. “All I Do Is Win” — DJ Khaled featuring T-Pain, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, and Rick Ross
  12. “Old Town Road” — Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus

Hip-hop can make an entrance feel highly personal and confident, but this category needs the closest lyric check. Several selections have explicit language or themes that may not suit every family, venue, or ceremony. Ask for a clean edit, an instrumental, or a custom section if necessary.

Rock and alternative

  1. “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” — The Darkness
  2. “Best Day of My Life” — American Authors
  3. “You Shook Me All Night Long” — AC/DC
  4. “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” — Queen
  5. “Don’t Stop Me Now” — Queen
  6. “Beautiful Day” — U2
  7. “Here Comes the Sun” — The Beatles
  8. “All You Need Is Love” — The Beatles
  9. “You’re My Best Friend” — Queen
  10. “Home” — Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros
  11. “Sweet Disposition” — The Temper Trap
  12. “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” — Arctic Monkeys

Rock and alternative choices work particularly well when the couple’s taste matters more than following a conventional wedding playlist. “Here Comes the Sun” is warm and bright; “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” and “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” make the entrance more deliberately exuberant.

Country and Americana

  1. “Forever and Ever, Amen” — Randy Travis
  2. “From This Moment On” — Shania Twain
  3. “You’re Still the One” — Shania Twain
  4. “My Best Friend” — Tim McGraw
  5. “Die a Happy Man” — Thomas Rhett
  6. “From the Ground Up” — Dan + Shay
  7. “Yours If You Want It” — Rascal Flatts
  8. “Honey Bee” — Blake Shelton
  9. “Happy Anywhere” — Blake Shelton featuring Gwen Stefani
  10. “Head Over Boots” — Jon Pardi
  11. “God Gave Me You” — Blake Shelton
  12. “Whatever It Is” — Zac Brown Band

Country and Americana songs can make the entrance feel personal, conversational, and rooted in the couple’s shared taste. For a bigger party cue, use an upbeat track such as “Honey Bee” or “Head Over Boots”; for a more emotional arrival, consider “From This Moment On” or “From the Ground Up.”

Funny, playful, or unconventional entrances

  1. “Another One Bites the Dust” — Queen
  2. “You’re the One That I Want” — John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John
  3. “Marry You” — Bruno Mars
  4. “The Best” — Tina Turner
  5. “I’m Too Sexy” — Right Said Fred
  6. “Sexy and I Know It” — LMFAO
  7. “The Imperial March” — John Williams
  8. “The Final Countdown” — Europe
  9. “The Time Warp” — Little Nell, Patricia Quinn, and Richard O’Brien
  10. “Cotton Eye Joe” — Rednex
  11. “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of…)” — Lou Bega
  12. “Who Let the Dogs Out” — Baha Men

A joke song is most effective when the couple understands the reference and the gag ends quickly. “The Imperial March,” for example, can introduce the couple or wedding party before cutting into a more conventional party song. Avoid a playful title if the lyrics could embarrass someone or suggest a meaning you do not intend.

Unique, cinematic, and less expected

  1. “You Make My Dreams (Come True)” — Daryl Hall & John Oates
  2. “Dog Days Are Over” — Florence + the Machine
  3. “Home” — Phillip Phillips
  4. “Ho Hey” — The Lumineers
  5. “Electric Love” — BØRNS
  6. “Team” — Lorde
  7. “The Bones” — Maren Morris
  8. “A Thousand Years” — Christina Perri
  9. “Golden Hour” — JVKE
  10. “Until I Found You” — Stephen Sanchez
  11. “Ordinary” — Alex Warren
  12. “You’re My Best Friend” — The Once

These choices are for couples who want something less expected than a standard wedding anthem. “Dog Days Are Over” gives the entrance a cinematic release, while “Until I Found You,” “Golden Hour,” and “Ordinary” offer newer romantic possibilities. Inclusion in a contemporary playlist indicates that a song is being surfaced as an option—not that it is a measured ranking of the most popular wedding songs. For additional contemporary dance and party ideas, browse the Green Wedding Shoes wedding-party playlist; for newer romantic options, a current-looking bridal playlist includes “Ordinary,” “Perfect,” “All of Me,” and “Until I Found You.”

How to choose the right entrance song

1. Decide who is entering and in what order

Write the entrance as a small piece of stage direction. For example:

  • Wedding party enters first in pairs.
  • Parents or special attendants enter next, if included.
  • MC announces the newlyweds.
  • The couple enters on a separate cue and pauses for a photograph or guest reaction.

A single track can work for everyone, but two songs may give the couple a more distinctive arrival. A repeated chorus is often better for a large group; a dramatic intro or lyrical payoff is more effective when only the couple is entering.

2. Give the DJ a precise starting point

Do not send only a song title. Specify the recording, the version, and the cue:

  • “Start at the beginning.”
  • “Start at 0:42, immediately before the first chorus.”
  • “Use the clean edit.”
  • “Fade after the second chorus when we reach the head table.”

Also give the MC’s preferred announcement and identify who enters first. The Knot’s DJ-planning questions similarly emphasize discussing entrance order, requests, and setlist preferences in advance.

3. Plan for 45–90 seconds, not necessarily the full song

Most grand entrances do not need a complete track. A short, edited section keeps the energy high and prevents the song from fading while the couple is already standing at the head table. Ask the DJ or band for a clean ending, rather than relying on an accidental fade-out. If the venue has a long walkway or a large wedding party, rehearse the timing and extend the edit only as needed.

4. Check the lyrics and recording

Listen to the entire version, not only the chorus or title. Some apparently celebratory songs contain references to breakups, infidelity, explicit language, violence, or other themes that may not fit the event. If the melody is right but the lyrics are not, ask about a radio edit, instrumental version, or custom edit. Confirm the exact recording too: a live performance, remix, clean edit, and original studio version may have different lengths and openings.

5. Separate must-plays from maybes

Give the music provider three lists:

  • Must-play: songs or cues that matter to you.
  • Do-not-play: artists, songs, genres, or specific versions to avoid.
  • Maybes: options the DJ or band can use if they suit the room.

A short, prioritized must-play list is easier to execute than an enormous playlist with no ranking. Leave the provider room to adjust background music and later dance selections to the guests, while keeping the entrance cue non-negotiable.

6. Confirm playback, backups, and venue logistics

A public streaming playlist is useful for sharing ideas, but it should not automatically be treated as the event’s playback plan. Ask who supplies the audio file, who brings the backup, and who controls the cue. Confirm whether the venue, DJ, band, or production company supplies the speakers, mixer, microphones, and sound reinforcement. For a complex entrance, a wedding DJ or live wedding band can handle the cue, announcement, clean edit, and timing as part of the music plan; verify availability and service details directly before booking.

Final DJ handoff checklist

  • Song title, artist, and exact preferred recording supplied.
  • Clean, radio, instrumental, or original version clearly labeled.
  • Starting timestamp or “begin at intro” instruction included.
  • Wedding-party entrance order written down.
  • Newlywed entrance cue identified separately if needed.
  • MC announcement written exactly as you want it spoken.
  • Approximate stop point or custom ending agreed upon.
  • Walkway length and expected entrance duration shared.
  • Must-play, maybes, and do-not-play lists separated.
  • Audio file, playback device, and backup owner confirmed.
  • Venue sound check and microphone responsibilities confirmed.
  • Couple, DJ, MC, photographer, and coordinator know the same cue.

Before publication or final booking, check the song titles, artist credits, and the specific recordings in the DJ’s library. This is a curated set of ideas rather than a measured ranking: the right entrance song is the one whose cue, lyrics, energy, and timing fit your couple and your room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a reception entrance song the same as a ceremony processional song?

No. A reception entrance song welcomes the wedding party or newlyweds into the reception, while a ceremony processional accompanies the walk down the aisle. A recessional follows the ceremony, a first-dance song is reserved for the couple’s featured dance, and an exit song closes the reception. Each moment can use a different track.

How long should a wedding reception entrance song be?

Usually, 45 to 90 seconds is enough. Use a longer edit if many people are entering or the venue has a long walkway. Ask the DJ or band to create a clear ending instead of allowing the track to fade after the couple has reached the head table.

What information should I give my wedding DJ?

Provide the song title, artist, exact recording, version, starting timestamp, entrance order, MC announcement, and desired ending. Also label clean versions, instrumental edits, must-plays, maybes, and do-not-play songs.

Should a wedding reception entrance song be clean?

Yes, if you want to avoid lyrics that are explicit, suggestive, or unrelated to the occasion. Listen to the full track and request a clean edit or instrumental version when appropriate.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Choose the song that gives your entrance an immediate, recognizable lift; then make the execution precise. Tell the DJ who enters, when the track starts, which edit to use, when it ends, and what happens if the timing changes.
