The 2014 People en Español gallery titled “12 Celebrities Who Have Posed Nude While Pregnant” contains 12 entries but only 11 people: Christina Aguilera appears twice, for two different magazine shoots. The images also vary in how much they reveal, so “nude” is not an accurate description of every cover or photograph.
What the 12 entries show
The original gallery, published by People en Español on October 7, 2014, pairs each celebrity with a publication. Its list is useful as a record of those editorial appearances, but its broad title should not be taken to mean that every image shows full nudity.
| Entry | Celebrity | Publication named in the gallery | What the available description establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kelly Rowland | Elle | The gallery identifies the magazine shoot; it does not establish that the image is fully nude. |
| 2 | Christina Aguilera | V Magazine | A separate Aguilera shoot from the one listed later; the gallery’s broad title does not establish full nudity. |
| 3 | Jessica Simpson | Elle | The gallery identifies the magazine appearance; it does not establish that the image is fully nude. |
| 4 | Demi Moore | Vanity Fair | The August 1991 cover is a full-nude portrait. |
| 5 | Mariah Carey | Life & Style | The gallery identifies the publication; it does not establish full nudity. |
| 6 | Claudia Schiffer | Vogue Germany | The gallery identifies the publication; it does not establish full nudity. |
| 7 | Christina Aguilera | Marie Claire | A second Aguilera entry, distinct from the V Magazine shoot; the title alone does not establish full nudity. |
| 8 | Britney Spears | Harper’s Bazaar | The gallery identifies the magazine appearance; it does not establish full nudity. |
| 9 | Anna Nicole Smith | Vanity Fair | The gallery identifies the publication; it does not establish full nudity. |
| 10 | Monica Bellucci | Vanity Fair Italia | The gallery identifies the publication; it does not establish full nudity. |
| 11 | Brooke Shields | Vogue | The gallery identifies the magazine appearance; it does not establish full nudity. |
| 12 | Cindy Crawford | W | The gallery identifies the publication; it does not establish full nudity. |
The gallery captions sometimes include an issue month or year, but not every entry has a precise shoot date. A publication or issue reference should not be mistaken for the date the photograph was taken.
Why Demi Moore’s 1991 cover became a landmark
Vanity Fair’s August 1991 cover of Demi Moore, photographed by Annie Leibovitz when Moore was seven months pregnant, is the clearest fully nude example in the group and a key reference point in later accounts of celebrity maternity covers. In a first-person account published by Vanity Fair on September 8, 2008, Leibovitz recalled that the nude frame was initially meant for Moore rather than the magazine cover. After Leibovitz and editor Tina Brown saw the proofs, Moore agreed to use it as the cover.

“But the fully nude picture was not taken until toward the end of the shoot and was intended just for Demi.”
Leibovitz also recalled controversy around the issue, including some retailers covering the image or refusing to sell it. That is her account of the response, not a quantified survey of retailers or readers. She later described the image as historically influential while distinguishing that role from her judgment of it as a photograph: “It was a popular picture and it broke ground, but I don’t think it’s a good photograph per se. It’s a magazine cover.”

How the magazine-cover tradition developed
A 2017 ELLE retrospective places Moore’s cover at the beginning of a visible celebrity magazine-cover trend and lists examples across later decades. Its selection includes Cindy Crawford (1999), Monica Bellucci (2004 and 2010), Britney Spears (2006), Eva Herzigova (2007), Christina Aguilera (2008), Paula Patton and Mariah Carey (2010–11), Jessica Simpson (2012), Kourtney Kardashian (2014), Blac Chyna (2016), and Ciara and Serena Williams (2017). These are retrospective examples, not evidence that Moore was the first pregnant person ever photographed nude.
The images in that history are not all fully nude. ELLE, for instance, describes Aguilera in a leather jacket and Patton in a toga. The distinction matters: a pregnant celebrity cover may show a bare bump, a partially clothed pose, toplessness, or full nudity, and those categories are not interchangeable. Read the ELLE retrospective.

From magazine covers to personal posts
Pregnancy portraits later appeared beyond editorial magazine covers, including on social platforms and in other photo shoots. A February 2023 Us Weekly roundup describes examples involving Ireland Baldwin, Toni Garrn, Ashley Graham, Devon Windsor, and Nikki and Brie Bella, among others. Its descriptions distinguish between nude portraits, topless images, and photographs focused on a bare bump; the platform and the degree of exposure both affect how an image should be described. See the Us Weekly roundup.
The magazine-cover format remains part of the story: a June 2017 Vanity Fair feature documented Serena Williams’s cover shoot. View the Serena Williams cover-shoot feature. Together, the editorial and personal examples show a change in where these portraits appear, not a single uniform style of image.

How to read the gallery accurately
- Count entries, not people. Christina Aguilera’s two separate appearances make the 2014 list 12 entries and 11 distinct celebrities.
- Use the publication or platform attached to the image. A magazine cover, an interior editorial, and a personal social post are different kinds of publication.
- Describe exposure precisely. Say nude only when the source establishes nudity; otherwise use a supported description such as topless or bare-bump portrait.
- Keep dates tied to their evidence. An issue month or cover year does not, by itself, establish when a photograph was taken.
