In 24/7 Tempo’s January 5, 2022 ranking, Donald Trump is first among the 11 lowest-ranked Saturday Night Live hosts, while Bernie Mac is eleventh. The list is based on episode ratings and hosting appearances—not a direct measurement of each host’s comic ability. Its IMDb figures were collected on December 29, 2021, so they are a historical snapshot, not current ratings.
How 24/7 Tempo ranked the hosts
John Harrington’s 24/7 Tempo article says the ranking used an index with two elements: the average IMDb user rating for all episodes hosted by a guest and the total number of episodes hosted by that guest. User ratings were weighted by the number of votes, and episode count received half weighting. The article’s ratings snapshot was collected December 29, 2021. Read the 24/7 Tempo ranking and its methodology.
That method means the order is not simply a list of the lowest-rated individual episodes: the number of hosting appearances also affects the index. Nor does an episode score isolate the host’s performance; it reflects audience ratings of the episode as a whole, which can be shaped by sketches, writing, musical performances, and other factors.
The 11 hosts in the ranking
The table reproduces the first eleven positions in 24/7 Tempo’s ranking. Episode ratings and dates are the figures reported in that article, not ratings rechecked against IMDb today.
| Rank | Host | Average episode rating | Hosting appearances | Hosted episode date(s) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Donald Trump | 3.4/10 | 2 | April 3, 2004; November 7, 2015 |
| 2 | Paris Hilton | 3.6/10 | 1 | February 5, 2005 |
| 3 | Al Sharpton | 4.0/10 | 1 | December 6, 2003 |
| 4 | Pamela Lee | 4.1/10 | 1 | April 19, 1997 |
| 5 | Cuba Gooding Jr. | 4.1/10 | 1 | May 8, 1999 |
| 6 | Justin Bieber | 4.3/10 | 1 | February 9, 2013 |
| 7 | Rosie O’Donnell | 4.3/10 | 2 | November 13, 1993; December 14, 1996 |
| 8 | Calista Flockhart | 4.6/10 | 1 | November 11, 2000 |
| 9 | Nia Vardalos | 4.6/10 | 1 | November 9, 2002 |
| 10 | Jonny Moseley | 4.8/10 | 1 | March 2, 2002 |
| 11 | Bernie Mac | 4.8/10 | 1 | April 5, 2003 |
What the ranking does—and does not—say
Trump’s two episodes averaged 3.4/10 in the article’s snapshot, the lowest average among these entries. Paris Hilton followed at 3.6/10. At the other end of the eleven, Jonny Moseley and Bernie Mac each averaged 4.8/10. Those scores describe IMDb users’ ratings of hosted episodes as reported by 24/7 Tempo; they are not a verdict on the hosts’ careers or a controlled comparison of individual comic performances.
The title’s “worst” label should therefore be read as shorthand for this publication’s ranking and chosen index. Other measures, different rating dates, or a ranking focused on hosting craft rather than whole-episode reception could yield a different order.
