The best aisle song is one that sounds like you, gives everyone enough time to walk comfortably, and works in the format your ceremony can support. For the most adaptable choices, start with Can’t Help Falling in Love, A Thousand Years, Perfect, All of Me, Clair de Lune, Here Comes the Sun, Married Life, or The Book of Love. These melodies remain recognizable as piano, harp, violin, cello, acoustic guitar, string quartet, vocal performances, or recorded tracks.
There is no single correct processional song. A formal church ceremony may call for Bach, Schubert, or Pachelbel; an outdoor wedding may suit an acoustic indie melody; and a film-loving couple may prefer a theme from Up, The Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars. The 105 ideas below are grouped by mood and style rather than ranked.
Before choosing: the five decisions that matter most
- Decide who the song is for. The wedding party can enter to one piece and the couple to another. A short wedding-party processional can lead into a longer principal entrance, so you do not have to force one recording to cover every person.
- Walk the actual aisle. Listen to the exact recording or arrangement while someone walks from the real starting point to the front. A slow version can feel elegant, but an extremely slow performance may make the entrance feel unusually long. A live musician can usually extend a section; a recorded track may need an edit.
- Choose live or recorded music. Instrumental arrangements are particularly flexible for piano, harp, violin, cello, organ, guitar, or string quartet. A recording is the easiest option if you want a specific vocal performance or soundtrack version.
- Read the complete lyrics. A song can sound romantic while its words describe regret, separation, uncertainty, infidelity, or death. Review the full lyrics before approving a vocal version, especially if your venue or family is sensitive to the meaning.
- Confirm venue rules. Religious ceremonies, campus chapels, historic venues, and individual officiants may restrict secular, recorded, or vocal music. Ask whether your processional selections need approval before you build the rest of the ceremony around them.
Quick picks by wedding style

105 songs to walk down the aisle to
This list includes 105 distinct options. One commonly circulated version of the list repeats First Day of My Life; that duplicate has been replaced here with Here Comes the Sun, a particularly effective processional choice for acoustic and string arrangements.

- Can’t Help Falling in Love — Elvis Presley
- At Last — Etta James
- Unchained Melody — The Righteous Brothers
- The Way You Look Tonight — Frank Sinatra
- What a Wonderful World — Louis Armstrong
- The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face — Roberta Flack
- The Book of Love — Peter Gabriel
- La Vie en rose — Édith Piaf

- God Only Knows — The Beach Boys
- This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) — Natalie Cole
- Stand by Me — Ben E. King
- You Are the Best Thing — Ray LaMontagne
- The Luckiest — Ben Folds
This group covers both stately and joyful entrances. Can’t Help Falling in Love, The Book of Love, and The Luckiest are especially effective when the couple wants a recognizable melody without a heavily produced arrangement. This Will Be, You Are the Best Thing, and Stand by Me bring more movement and warmth to an unconventional entrance.

2. Modern pop and singer-songwriter favorites
- A Thousand Years — Christina Perri
- Perfect — Ed Sheeran
- All of Me — John Legend
- Make You Feel My Love — Adele
- Turning Page — Sleeping at Last
- I Get to Love You — Ruelle
- How Long Will I Love You — Ellie Goulding
- The One — Kodaline
- Lover — Taylor Swift
- Sweet Nothing — Taylor Swift
- You Are in Love — Taylor Swift
- Adore You — Harry Styles
- Beyond — Leon Bridges
- Speechless — Dan + Shay
- From the Ground Up — Dan + Shay
A Thousand Years, Perfect, and All of Me are popular for good practical reasons: their central melodies translate well to piano, violin, harp, and string quartet. Taylor Swift’s Lover, Sweet Nothing, and You Are in Love offer different shades of intimacy, while Speechless and From the Ground Up suit couples who want a contemporary country-pop feel without moving into the traditional country section.
3. Acoustic and indie choices
- Ho Hey — The Lumineers
- Home — Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
- First Day of My Life — Bright Eyes
- The Stable Song — Gregory Alan Isakov
- Northern Wind — City and Colour
- Bloom — The Paper Kites
- Sea of Love — Cat Power
- Flightless Bird, American Mouth — Iron & Wine
- Such Great Heights — Iron & Wine
- You and Me — Penny & The Quarters
- Anyone Else but You — The Moldy Peaches
- Mystery of Love — Sufjan Stevens
- Here Comes the Sun — The Beatles
- The Only Exception — Paramore
- Simply the Best — Tina Turner, or an acoustic cover
These selections work well for a garden, woodland, barn, or relaxed outdoor ceremony. Bloom, Sea of Love, and Mystery of Love can feel intimate and atmospheric, while Ho Hey, Home, and Simply the Best make the entrance feel more personal and upbeat. An acoustic cover can also soften the tone of a song whose original production is too large for the ceremony.
4. R&B, soul, and jazz
- All My Life — K-Ci & JoJo
- By Your Side — Sade
- So High — John Legend
- You Are the Sunshine of My Life — Stevie Wonder
- For Once in My Life — Stevie Wonder
- Let’s Stay Together — Al Green
- Nothing Even Matters — Lauryn Hill and D’Angelo
- The Point of It All — Anthony Hamilton
- If I Ain’t Got You — Alicia Keys
- Adorn — Miguel
- Best Part — Daniel Caesar featuring H.E.R.
- Come Away With Me — Norah Jones
- L-O-V-E — Nat King Cole
- I Found You — Alabama Shakes
- You Send Me — Sam Cooke
R&B and soul songs can give the processional a strong vocal identity, but they are equally useful as piano, guitar, or string arrangements. Choose By Your Side, Come Away With Me, or You Send Me for a smooth, understated entrance. For Once in My Life, L-O-V-E, and I Found You are better fits when the couple wants guests to feel the joy immediately.
5. Country and folk-country processional songs
- From This Moment On — Shania Twain
- Then — Brad Paisley
- I Cross My Heart — George Strait
- Die a Happy Man — Thomas Rhett
- Yours If You Want It — Rascal Flatts
- When You Say Nothing at All — Alison Krauss
- Making Memories of Us — Keith Urban
- My Best Friend — Tim McGraw
- H.O.L.Y. — Florida Georgia Line
- Forever and Ever, Amen — Randy Travis
- I Hope You Dance — Lee Ann Womack
- Bless the Broken Road — Rascal Flatts
- Cowboy Take Me Away — The Chicks
- Tennessee Whiskey — Chris Stapleton
- Me and You — Kenny Chesney
When You Say Nothing at All, Then, and Making Memories of Us are natural choices for a warm, traditional country ceremony. Cowboy Take Me Away is a distinctive option for an outdoor or ranch wedding. As always, read the complete lyrics: a song that feels right musically may contain a line or theme that does not fit the couple’s intended message.
6. Classical, sacred, and instrumental standards
- Canon in D — Johann Pachelbel
- Air on the G String — Johann Sebastian Bach
- Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring — Johann Sebastian Bach
- Arioso — Johann Sebastian Bach
- The Swan — Camille Saint-Saëns
- Ave Maria — Franz Schubert or Charles Gounod
- Clair de Lune — Claude Debussy
- Gymnopédie No. 1 — Erik Satie
- Méditation from Thaïs — Jules Massenet
- The Prince of Denmark’s March — Jeremiah Clarke
- Trumpet Voluntary — Jeremiah Clarke
- Air from Water Music — George Frideric Handel
- Ode to Joy — Ludwig van Beethoven
- Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin — Richard Wagner
- Wedding March from A Midsummer Night’s Dream — Felix Mendelssohn
Classical music remains one of the most practical choices for live ceremony musicians because the arrangements are already established for instruments such as piano, organ, violin, cello, harp, and strings. Canon in D was not originally composed for weddings, but later performance practice and string arrangements made it strongly associated with wedding ceremonies.

- Best Wishes from Us: Thank you for choosing our wedding planner and organizer. We bless your love and commitment. May your hearts be filled with patience, kindness, and understanding. We hope this planner helps you face challenges together and cherish beautiful moments
For a church or religious ceremony, do not assume that a piece labeled sacred will automatically be approved, or that a secular piece will automatically be rejected. The officiant, denomination, venue, and local policy determine what can be played. Confirm the rules before selecting Ave Maria, Bridal Chorus, Wedding March, or any vocal piece.
7. Film, television, fantasy, and pop-culture themes
- Married Life from Up — Michael Giacchino
- Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King — Elton John
- Once Upon a Dream from Sleeping Beauty — traditional Disney version
- A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman — P.T. Barnum cast or instrumental cover
- Rewrite the Stars from The Greatest Showman — Zac Efron and Zendaya
- Concerning Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings — Howard Shore
- Kiss the Girl from The Little Mermaid — Alan Menken
- Storybook Love from The Princess Bride — Mark Knopfler
- Across the Stars from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones — John Williams
- How Does a Moment Last Forever from Beauty and the Beast — Céline Dion or instrumental cover
- Love Is an Open Door from Frozen — Kristen Bell and Santino Fontana
- I See the Light from Tangled — Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi
- The Book of Life from The Book of Life — Gustavo Santaolalla
- A Whole New World from Aladdin — instrumental or acoustic cover
- Married Life / Up Theme — instrumental medley based on Michael Giacchino’s score
Film and television themes can make the processional feel unmistakably personal without sacrificing ceremony atmosphere. Married Life and Concerning Hobbits are especially effective instrumentally because their melodies remain recognizable without a vocal. I See the Light, Across the Stars, and Storybook Love suit couples who want a cinematic entrance. For vocal duets such as Love Is an Open Door or A Whole New World, confirm that the performance format and venue are appropriate.
How to match the song to your ceremony format
For a solo pianist or harpist
Prioritize melodies that remain recognizable without a backing band. The most adaptable starting points are Can’t Help Falling in Love, A Thousand Years, Perfect, Lover, Clair de Lune, The Swan, and Married Life. Ask for an arrangement that leaves room to repeat or extend a section if the entrance takes longer than expected.
For violin and piano or a string quartet
Pop melodies with a clear, sustained hook often translate beautifully to strings. Consider All of Me, Here Comes the Sun, Stand by Me, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, or I See the Light. Classical standards such as Canon in D, The Swan, and Ave Maria are also natural choices for this format.

For a vocalist
Choose the version based on the singer’s range and the room’s acoustics, not only on the original recording. At Last, The Book of Love, Make You Feel My Love, By Your Side, When You Say Nothing at All, and What a Wonderful World can work well, but have the vocalist rehearse the exact key and length. If the lyrics are too prominent for the ceremony, use an instrumental arrangement instead.
For a DJ or recorded playback
Send the exact version rather than only the song title. Different recordings and covers can have very different introductions, tempos, lengths, and endings. Tell the DJ:
- who enters first and who enters last;
- where the music should begin;
- whether the song should build before the principal entrance;
- where the music should fade or stop when the couple reaches the front;
- whether the same track continues into the next ceremony moment; and
- which backup file or device should be used if the primary playback fails.
Obtain a recorded track through a legitimate music service or purchase. A private ceremony playback plan is different from publicly distributing or commercially reusing a recording, so ask your venue or sound professional what permissions and playback arrangements apply.
Live music versus a recording
| Choose live music when… | Choose recorded music when… |
|---|---|
| The aisle length or number of attendants may change. | You want the original vocalist or a particular soundtrack recording. |
| You want the musician to repeat a phrase, extend an ending, or stop on cue. | You have a precise version and timing already tested. |
| The ceremony atmosphere matters more than reproducing the studio arrangement. | The venue has reliable sound equipment and a clear playback plan. |
| You want a custom piano, harp, violin, cello, guitar, or string-quartet arrangement. | You want a vocal duet, full production, or recording that would be difficult to recreate live. |
If you plan to hire a wedding ceremony musician, compare more than the performer’s general style. Ask about the instrument, repertoire, travel area, arrangement capability, amplification, estimated walking time, and whether the musician can extend or end a piece on a visual cue. Give the performer the desired arrangement and an approximate duration well before the ceremony rehearsal.

- Guest seating or prelude: low-key music while guests arrive.
- Wedding-party processional: one or more attendants enter.
- Principal processional: the couple or the person making the main entrance walks down the aisle.
- Interlude: optional music during a reading, unity ritual, reflection, or other transition.
- Recessional: a brighter piece for the couple and wedding party leaving together.
The processional does not need to use the same track for every entrance. For example, the wedding party could enter to an instrumental arrangement of Clair de Lune, the couple could enter to Can’t Help Falling in Love, and the newlyweds could leave to This Will Be (An Everlasting Love). A separate recessional also prevents the entrance song from having to carry the entire ceremony’s energy.
Use a cue sheet
Give your musician, DJ, officiant, coordinator, and wedding party the same information:
| Field | What to write down |
|---|---|
| Moment | Prelude, wedding party, principal entrance, interlude, or recessional |
| Song and artist | Exact title, composer or performer, and cover version if applicable |
| Format | Recorded track, solo piano, harp, violin and piano, vocalist, or string quartet |
| Starting cue | Track start, musical introduction, lyric, measure, or visual signal |
| Ending cue | Natural ending, fade, repeat, cutoff, or continuation into another selection |
| Estimated duration | How long the entrance actually takes when walked at a comfortable pace |
| Backup | Alternate song, backup audio file, second playback device, or emergency live arrangement |
Rehearse the cue with the actual people involved. A coordinator can signal the DJ or musician when the final attendant has reached the front, while the officiant can clarify whether the music should continue underneath the opening words.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to narrow 105 choices to one
- Make a five-song shortlist. Pick one classic, one modern song, one instrumental, one song tied to your shared history, and one unexpected choice.
- Remove songs that do not fit the room. A powerful studio ballad may disappear in an outdoor setting, while a small piano arrangement may be ideal in an intimate chapel.
- Listen to the first 30 seconds. The introduction determines whether the entrance starts smoothly or feels like it begins in the middle of a song.
- Walk at the pace you will actually use. Do not choose an edit solely because it sounds good sitting down. Test the distance, turns, doors, stairs, dress, bouquet, and pauses.
- Ask the performer for a practical version. The best song on paper may not be the best song for one harp, one violin, or a small speaker. Request a sample arrangement if the format is unusual.
- Check the ending. A song with a long instrumental outro may work beautifully for a large wedding party but feel awkward for a short aisle. A musician can end on cue; a recording may require a clean edit.
- Get final approval. Confirm the venue policy, officiant’s requirements, musician’s repertoire, playback equipment, and the exact version before printing the program.
Good pairings for different entrances
Quiet wedding party, memorable principal entrance: Use Gymnopédie No. 1, The Swan, or Bloom for the wedding party, followed by A Thousand Years, Perfect, or Can’t Help Falling in Love for the couple.

Traditional ceremony, celebratory exit: Use Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Ave Maria, or Air from Water Music for the entrance, then switch to For Once in My Life, This Will Be, or You Are the Best Thing for the recessional.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should the wedding party and couple walk down the aisle to the same song?
No. Using one song for the wedding party and another for the principal entrance can make the timing easier and give the couple a distinct musical moment. A short processional can lead into a longer song for the couple.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Are instrumental versions better for a wedding processional?
Often, yes. An instrumental version keeps the melody while making the lyrics less prominent, and it is usually easier to adapt for piano, harp, violin, cello, guitar, organ, or strings. A vocal version is still appropriate when the words and venue fit the ceremony.
How slow should an aisle song be?
There is no universal ideal tempo. Walk the actual aisle while listening to the exact recording or arrangement. If the song makes the entrance feel rushed or unusually long, ask a live musician to adjust the tempo or extend a section, or have a recorded track edited.
Can I use a secular or recorded song in a church ceremony?
It depends on the church, denomination, officiant, and venue policy. Some ceremonies restrict secular, recorded, or vocal music, while others permit it with approval. Confirm the rules before finalizing the song.
The Bottom Line
Choose the song that supports the walk rather than competing with it. Test the exact version in the real aisle, decide whether the wedding party and couple need separate selections, confirm the venue’s rules, and give your musician or DJ precise start, timing, and ending cues. A familiar classic, an adaptable instrumental, or a personal film, country, indie, R&B, or pop choice can all be the right answer when it reflects the couple and works in the ceremony’s actual format.
