The Blue Meanie is Brian Heffron, a comic performer whose colorful persona became closely tied to ECW’s cult identity through the Blue World Order. Here are ten useful facts about his character, career, screen work and the carefully attributed story behind his 2005 encounter with JBL.
Who is The Blue Meanie?
1. The wrestler behind the character is Brian Heffron
WWE’s official profile identifies The Blue Meanie as Brian Heffron and describes him as a Philadelphia boy who caught the attention of Stevie Richards and Raven at an ECW event. WWE’s profile is the source for that career summary and for its billed profile details: 6’1”, 323 lbs, Pepperland as his hometown and the Meaniesault as his signature move.
2. His name and look were inspired by Yellow Submarine
WWE says Heffron took The Blue Meanie’s name and appearance from the villains in the Beatles’ 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine. That is an account of the character’s inspiration, not an indication that the film’s creators endorsed or participated in the wrestling persona.
3. He began as a comic sidekick
In WWE’s description of the ECW story, Stevie Richards served as Raven’s flunky, while Heffron’s character became Richards’ sidekick. The role gave the persona a comic place in a wrestling world known for its intense, often confrontational style.

What was the Blue World Order?
4. The bWo was an ECW parody faction
The Blue World Order, usually shortened to bWo, spoofed the New World Order. WWE identifies its trio as “Da Blue Guy” (The Blue Meanie), “Big Stevie Cool” (Stevie Richards) and “Hollywood” Nova. The gag borrowed the rival faction’s recognizable group identity and recast it with a distinctly comic ECW sensibility.
5. Its shirt became part of ECW’s legacy
WWE calls the bWo shirt “the best-selling in ECW history.” That is WWE’s qualitative historical claim; the profile does not give a sales total or supporting figures. Even without a published number, the shirt remains an easy-to-recognize emblem of the group’s place in ECW culture.

WWE says Heffron enjoyed “a combined five years in ECW and WWE.” Treat that as the organization’s combined-duration summary, not as evidence of five uninterrupted years or a precise start-and-end chronology.
What did he do outside the ring?
7. His screen work included television and films
WWE’s biography notes a cameo in the WB series Nikki, appearances in several horror films and a role in the award-winning movie The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke. The bio does not name every horror film or provide a complete screen-credit list.
