Ox Baker was the ring name of Douglas Baker, a professional wrestler remembered for a menacing villain persona and the heart punch associated with it. WWE described him as a feared ring villain whose career lasted more than three decades. Here are ten useful facts about his career and legacy, with documented details kept separate from wrestling lore.
1. Ox Baker was Douglas Baker
WWE’s memorial and the CAGEMATCH wrestler profile identify the performer as Ox Baker. CAGEMATCH lists Sedalia, Missouri, as his birthplace.
2. He made a feared villain his public identity
WWE called Baker “a feared villain of the ring for more than three decades” in its 2014 memorial notice. His intimidating presentation was central to how audiences came to remember him.
3. The heart punch became his signature
The heart punch is closely associated with Baker’s wrestling persona and is the move most often tied to his name. The available sources do not establish its origin or technical history, so those details should not be treated as settled fact.

4. He worked in more than one wrestling role
CAGEMATCH records Baker as a singles wrestler, tag-team wrestler and manager. That range puts his career beyond a single in-ring persona, even though the feared villain remains his most recognizable image.
5. His career lasted more than three decades
WWE’s memorial describes his wrestling career as spanning more than three decades. CAGEMATCH lists 1962 as the beginning of his in-ring career, but other biographical accounts give a different debut year. The precise start date is therefore uncertain; the broader career-length description is better supported.

Wrestler Tommy Rich recalled his experience positively in a Slam Wrestling retrospective: “A lot of guys didn’t like to work with Ox Baker, but I could rassle Ox and have a hell of a match.” Rich’s comment offers a peer’s perspective alongside Baker’s fearsome public character.
