Paul McCartney tops the July 2026 ranking, with an estimated net worth of $1.3 billion, according to LedgerNote. Bruce Springsteen is second at $1.1 billion, and Bono is third at $700 million. These are publisher estimates, not audited disclosures or confirmed personal balance sheets.
Here, “rock star” follows LedgerNote’s broad list of solo performers from rock and pop traditions. It is not a ranking of every wealthy musician: for example, Forbes describes Jay-Z as a musician, entrepreneur and investor, but that does not establish that a rap artist belongs in a rock-only list.

Who is the richest rock star?
In LedgerNote’s July 2026 estimate ranking, Paul McCartney is the richest rock star, at $1.3 billion. The figures below are attributed to that publisher and date; they should be read as estimates rather than precise or audited valuations.
| Rank | Artist | Estimated net worth |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Paul McCartney | $1.3 billion (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 2 | Bruce Springsteen | $1.1 billion (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 3 | Bono | $700 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 4 | Elton John | $635 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 5 | Mick Jagger | $590 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 6 | Keith Richards | $590 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 7 | Sting | $550 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 8 (tie) | Eric Clapton | $450 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 8 (tie) | Jon Bon Jovi | $450 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
| 10 | Gene Simmons | $400 million (LedgerNote, July 2026) |
LedgerNote’s estimates place Clapton and Bon Jovi level at $450 million. The list gives them adjacent positions, but the figures do not distinguish one from the other.

How reliable are the net-worth figures?
Personal wealth estimates are difficult to compare when holdings are private and publishers may use different assumptions. LedgerNote’s figures are not presented as audited disclosures, and the available material does not establish one shared methodology for valuing all ten artists. The ranking is best treated as a dated snapshot from one publisher, not a definitive accounting of who is wealthiest.
There is one useful cross-check for Springsteen: Forbes Australia reported in July 2024 that it conservatively estimated his wealth at $1.1 billion, while noting that his representatives could not confirm the estimate. That 2024 estimate is not a fresh 2026 valuation, nor does it verify the entire top-ten list.
What can drive a musician’s fortune?
Catalog rights, publishing, touring and businesses can all contribute to an artist’s wealth, but the ranking does not provide a consistent asset-by-asset breakdown for each person. It would be misleading to assign a specific share of any artist’s fortune to one source without supporting evidence.
Springsteen offers a concrete example of a major transaction: Forbes Australia reported that he sold his music catalog to Sony in 2021 for $500 million. That sale is not proof of his total net worth; it is one reported transaction within a much larger financial picture.

How the genre boundary changes the ranking
“Richest rock star” is not a universally settled category. This list follows LedgerNote’s selection of solo performers associated with varied rock and pop traditions, rather than a broad ranking of all musicians. Forbes’ profile of Jay-Z, updated March 10, 2026, identifies him as a musician, entrepreneur and investor and estimates his net worth at $2.8 billion. That figure illustrates why the inclusion rule matters, but it is not evidence that a rap artist should be counted in a rock-only ranking.
