The remaining calendar still includes adaptations and returning franchises such as Street Fighter, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and Dune: Part Three. This is a curated watchlist, not a measured ranking: the selections draw on recognizable source material or existing screen franchises, a reported or studio-listed 2026 date, and a distinct hook for viewers. Release schedules can change, and dates may vary by territory.
What remakes, reboots, and adaptations are still scheduled for 2026?
The dates below are scheduled dates, not guarantees. Paramount’s slate is the source for its titles; the other late-year dates and descriptions below come from TIME’s editorial calendar. Check the distributor’s current listing and local cinema schedule as a release approaches.

These eight titles are the late-year candidates supported by the cited listings in this guide. The available evidence does not establish two more suitable remaining-2026 releases with dates, so the list does not fill out ten by guessing. Paramount’s dates can be checked on its current slate; TIME’s calendar is an editorial roundup, not a studio schedule.
Which titles are adaptations, and which are franchise sequels?
The label matters: a familiar title does not always mean a remake. These selections range from a book-to-film adaptation to sequels and returning properties.

#1 Best Overall
- Book adaptation: The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping adapts Suzanne Collins’s prequel novel. TIME says it follows Haymitch in the Second Quarter Quell. Reading the novel beforehand is optional, not a prerequisite for the film.
- Book adaptation and trilogy continuation: TIME says Dune: Part Three adapts Dune Messiah while serving as the third and final installment in Villeneuve’s trilogy.
- Game-based film: Street Fighter is described as a live-action adaptation of the video-game franchise in coverage accompanying the slate; Paramount’s cited page itself confirms the title and date.
- Returning film franchises: Focker In-Law, Avengers: Doomsday and The Angry Birds Movie 3 continue existing screen properties rather than rebooting them, based on the cited descriptions or studio slate.
- Details not established by the cited listing: Paramount’s page confirms Ebenezer and its date, but does not establish the adaptation, plot or creative team. This guide does not infer those details from the title alone.
What to know about the films already dated earlier in 2026
Two prominent titles that appeared in full-year previews are no longer upcoming as of October 7. They belong in a retrospective, not a list of releases still ahead.
- Masters of the Universe: Mattel’s January 22 announcement identified it as a live-action film based on its franchise, directed by Travis Knight, with Prince Adam returning to Eternia and becoming He-Man. It listed a June 5, 2026 U.S. theatrical release through Amazon MGM Studios and an international release that June through Sony Pictures International Releasing. That scheduled date has passed.
- Moana: Disney describes the film as a live-action reimagining, directed by Thomas Kail and starring Catherine Lagaʻaia and Dwayne Johnson. Disney listed July 10, 2026, as its U.S. release date; that date has passed.
How to read the release dates
Paramount’s current slate lists Street Fighter, Ebenezer and The Angry Birds Movie 3. The other late-year dates in the table are reported by TIME, whose anticipated-film list reflects one publication’s editorial choices rather than a universal ranking or audience poll. The dates shown here do not establish local release dates in every country. For a specific territory, consult the distributor’s listing and local cinema schedules; a scheduled date can move.
