There is no current, globally representative ranking of the most famous fictional TV families. One documented answer comes from a Channel 4 survey of British public favourites: The Simpsons ranked first, followed by The Flintstones and The Royle Family. The list below follows that survey, so its percentages describe the poll’s reported British context—not fame everywhere or an objective measure.

What the results say—and what they do not
The Simpsons leads this particular list
At 45%, The Simpsons tops Channel 4’s reported British favourites. That result is meaningful as a snapshot of the survey’s stated audience, but it should not be recast as a worldwide ranking or a current measurement.

Two families appear across different kinds of lists
The Flintstones and The Addams Family appear both in Channel 4’s audience list and in TV Guide’s separate editorial ranking, “The 60 Greatest TV Families of All Time.” TV Guide places the Addamses ninth in the excerpted ranking. The two lists use different approaches—survey favourites versus an editorial judgment—so their overlap is evidence of recognition across those sources, not a shared scoring system.
“Famous” depends on the measure
A poll measures reported audience choices; an editorial list reflects its editors’ criteria. Longevity, repeat exposure, cross-generation recognition and franchise influence can also shape a family’s visibility, but the available sources do not provide comparable current scores for every family on those dimensions. There is therefore no defensible single, definitive global top ten.

Why The Brady Bunch is a useful comparison
The Brady family illustrates why an editorial “greatest” list can differ from a public-favourites poll. TV Guide ranks the Bradys first in its all-time editorial list, while they are not among Channel 4’s reported ten British favourites.
The Television Academy describes the sitcom’s premise: widower Mike Brady marries widow Carol Brady, and each brings three children to the household. The series ran on ABC from September 1969 to September 1974. Its visibility extended beyond the television run through spin-offs, records, lunch boxes, a cookbook, a stage show and a feature film, according to the Academy’s retrospective. Those details help explain the family’s cultural afterlife; they do not establish a comparative fame score. Television Academy: The Brady Bunch.

Historical signs of franchise reach
Commercial figures can indicate a franchise’s reach, but they need a date and a clear attribution. In 2010, The Guardian reported that The Simpsons had generated more than $8 billion in global DVD and merchandise sales or earnings, attributing the figure to a survey of industry experts. In a separate licensing-expert survey cited in the same report, 31% of 450 respondents ranked the series first. These are historical reports, not current revenue figures or a measure directly comparable with Channel 4’s poll. The Guardian’s 2010 licensing report.
The Television Academy’s account of The Brady Bunch also records merchandise and related productions, but does not establish present-day sales or a rank against other families. Such evidence can illuminate cultural persistence; it cannot substitute for a current, comparable fame survey.
