This ranking is subjective, not an official order: Disney+ Press lists 17 Christmas episodes, while Wikisimpsons’ broader 26-entry category also includes shorts and specials. Newer short-form entries and specials are noted separately below.
How this ranking works
The order weighs comic strength, emotional payoff, Christmas imagery and traditions, premise originality, and how well each story uses the family ensemble. The pool is drawn from the full-length Christmas-themed episodes in Disney+ Press’s holiday selection; it is not a claim that the show has only 17 holiday entries. Catalog definitions differ, and no source establishes an authoritative ranking.

The 10 greatest Simpsons Christmas episodes
-
“Marge Be Not Proud” (December 17, 1995)
Bart’s fixation on the Bonestorm video game turns a familiar Christmas wish into a story about trust. When Marge refuses to buy it, Bart shoplifts the game, and the consequences leave him feeling cut off from her. The episode earns its place at the top because its reconciliation is grounded in a specific, intimate gesture: Bart gives Marge a family photograph he has paid for. The holiday setting supports the emotional story without overwhelming it.
-
“Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” (December 17, 1989)
The first Christmas installment is also a defining family story. Homer spends the family’s Christmas money on himself, then changes course and helps others. Its premise makes money trouble part of the holiday rather than a background detail, while the family’s affection gives the episode its warmth. As a starting point for the series, it establishes how well the show can pair an absurd predicament with sincere feeling.

-
“Holidays of Future Passed” (December 11, 2011)
This future-set Christmas story gives the family room to change while keeping the focus on their relationships. Its appeal comes from the contrast between a speculative view of the Simpsons’ future and recognizable family tensions. It is a strong choice for viewers who want the holiday special to look beyond one Christmas morning and consider how the family holds together over time.
-
“Skinner’s Sense of Snow” (December 17, 2000)
A snowbound school makes for a distinctly seasonal setup, turning a familiar institution into the center of a comic survival story. The episode’s winter conditions provide the engine for the action, rather than serving as mere decoration. It ranks highly for making weather, school and holiday timing work together as one clear premise.

The Simpsons - Christmas 2- Factory sealed DVD
-
“Miracle on Evergreen Terrace”
Christmas plans unravel in Springfield fashion, giving the episode a sharp comic angle on holiday expectations and family trouble. Its title signals the familiar language of Christmas miracles, but the story’s pleasure lies in the gap between that promise and the family’s messy reality. It is a good pick for viewers who prefer holiday comedy built around escalating complications.
-
“Grift of the Magi”
This episode turns the commercial side of Christmas into the center of its satire. The school and the season provide a natural setting for a story about schemes and selling, giving the holiday backdrop a purpose beyond decoration. It stands out for taking a recognizable seasonal pressure—what gets marketed to children—and pushing it into Springfield’s comic register.

-
“The Fight Before Christmas”
Rather than relying on a single conventional holiday plot, this entry brings multiple Christmas-themed stories together. That structure makes it a useful choice for viewers who want variety in one episode, though its separate strands make it less unified than the strongest family-centered picks. Its seasonal imagery and changing scenarios supply the appeal.
-
“She of Little Faith”
Lisa’s perspective gives this holiday episode a different emotional center from stories driven mainly by Homer or Bart. Its place on the list reflects the value of seeing the season through a family member whose convictions often put her at odds with Springfield. It broadens the range of the Christmas selection beyond presents, pranks and household crises.
Rank #4
The Simpsons: Christmas with the Simpsons [Region 2]- Polish Release, cover may contain Polish text/markings. The disk has English audio.
-
“‘Tis the Fifteenth Season”
This story uses the holiday to put Homer’s selfishness and the possibility of doing better in the same frame. That familiar character tension fits Christmas particularly well: the season invites generosity, while Homer’s comic shortcomings keep that ideal from arriving too easily. It is a solid choice for viewers looking for a conventional seasonal lesson with the show’s irreverent edge.
-
“White Christmas Blues”
Holiday discomfort and Springfield’s comic take on Christmas make this a fitting final entry. It may not have the emotional force of the top-ranked family dramas, but its seasonal premise offers another flavor of the show’s holiday storytelling. It rounds out the list with a more pointed, less sentimental option.

What counts as a Simpsons Christmas episode?
The answer depends on what a list includes. Disney+ Press presents 17 selections in its Christmas episode collection: “Bobby, It’s Cold Outside”; “Grift of the Magi”; “Holidays of Future Passed”; “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas”; “Kill Gil, Volumes I & II”; “Marge Be Not Proud”; “Miracle on Evergreen Terrace”; “She of Little Faith”; “Simpsons Christmas Stories”; “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”; “Skinner’s Sense of Snow”; “The Burns and the Bees”; “The Fight Before Christmas”; “The Nightmare After Krustmas”; “‘Tis the 30th Season”; “‘Tis the Fifteenth Season”; and “White Christmas Blues.” Disney+ Press’s holiday episode list is a useful catalog, not a ranking.
Wikisimpsons’ Christmas episodes category lists 26 entries and has a wider scope, including shorts and specials. That broader group includes “Feliz Navidad,” “Manger Things,” “O C’mon All Ye Faithful,” “The Simpsons Yule Log,” and “A Springfield Summer Christmas for Christmas,” among others. Those titles are not all equivalent to a regular full-length episode, which is why this ranking keeps the main list focused on full-length Christmas-themed episodes.
Where to watch
Disney+ Press identifies Disney+ as the streaming home for The Simpsons and publishes a holiday collection. Streaming catalogs can vary by territory and change over time, so check the current listing in your region rather than assuming every episode is available everywhere. The Disney+ Press collection provides the episode selection but does not guarantee current availability in every market.
Newer Christmas shorts and specials
The broader franchise includes short-form holiday entries and specials beyond the full-length episodes ranked here. “The Simpsons Yule Log” was released on Disney+ on December 22, 2025, and is described as 60 minutes. Its reference page uses the phrase “Mmm…holiday nostalgia” as descriptive copy, not as a quotation from a named speaker. Because formats and catalog boundaries differ, it belongs in a broader Christmas watchlist rather than this top ten of full-length episodes. The Simpsons Yule Log reference page gives its release date and format.
