An August 11, 2025 article says Emmerich told JoBlo in a 2024 interview that he had abandoned the idea of returning to it. The original interview has not been independently verified here, so the remark should be treated as a secondary report—not a confirmed direct quotation.
What Emmerich reportedly said about Stargate
Indian Defence Review, in an article published August 11, 2025, attributes the statement to a 2024 JoBlo interview. In the account, Emmerich said the franchise was difficult because many people owned rights to it, and that he no longer wanted to work on it. The original JoBlo interview was not located, so its wording, date and context cannot be checked against the primary source.

Why the comment matters to the franchise
Emmerich directed the 1994 Stargate film, starring James Spader and Kurt Russell, which the article identifies as the franchise’s starting point. The television series Stargate SG-1 began in 1997 and ran for ten seasons, according to the same report. It was followed by Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe; the franchise also expanded into direct-to-video films, novels and comics.
That history helps explain the distinction between Emmerich’s reported willingness to return and the franchise’s wider continuation: the series and other extensions are part of a larger property, not simply a continuation directed by him. The article’s account does not establish the exact ownership or licensing arrangements.

Is a Stargate revival confirmed?
No official confirmation is established by the cited article. It discusses Amazon exploring a revival and mentions possible writers, but those claims are not accompanied by an official announcement in the source. They should not be read as proof that a new series, reboot or film is in production.
The same article reports a worldwide gross of nearly $200 million for the original film, but does not supply an independently checked box-office source or explain how the figure was calculated. That number is therefore best understood as the article’s report, not a verified accounting figure.
