He explained that he was unsure whether Dominguinho referred to the album or its performer and waited for co-presenter Kenya Sade to complete the announcement. The clip shows a hesitation; it does not establish anything about his literacy.
What happened at the 2025 Prêmio Multishow
At the ceremony on December 9, 2025, Zé Felipe presented the Album of the Year category alongside Kenya Sade. When the winner, Dominguinho, was announced, he hesitated. The album is associated with João Gomes, Jota.pê and Mestrinho.
The moment circulated online, where some users joked that Zé Felipe could not read or framed the clip as him not knowing how to read “Dominguinho.” Those comments were speculation, not verified evidence about his reading ability.
How Zé Felipe explained the pause
In an explanation reported on December 10, Zé Felipe said he had wondered whether Dominguinho was the performer’s name or the album title. CNN Brasil reported that he waited for Kenya Sade to say the full category and title.

CNN Brasil reproduced his response in Portuguese: “Mas eu sei ler. Não sou mestre da leitura não, mas um pouquinho eu sei, tá?” In English: “But I can read. I’m no master of reading, but I know a little, okay?” The statement is his response to the online claims, not independent evidence about his literacy.
What the video does—and does not—show
The clip and the surrounding reports establish that Zé Felipe paused during the announcement and later gave an explanation for doing so. They do not establish that he is illiterate. The claim arose from social-media reactions to a brief onstage moment, while Zé Felipe said his hesitation came from uncertainty over whether the name referred to the album or its performer.
