“Dark past” is a sensational label, not a neutral description. The available reporting supports careful accounts of three women’s publicly discussed experiences: Samantha Morton’s reported teenage legal history, and Paris Hilton’s and Sally Field’s own accounts of childhood or institutional trauma. It does not establish the other 12 people or claims promised by the headline, so presenting a complete list of 15 would risk inventing or misrepresenting people’s histories.
What the available reporting supports
These examples are not a ranking, and their experiences are not equivalent. Morton’s case concerns a reported youth charge and conviction; Hilton and Field have spoken publicly about traumatic experiences. The distinctions between a person’s account, a reported allegation, a charge, and a conviction matter—especially when a headline compresses them into “dark past.”

Samantha Morton: a teenage charge and conviction
RTÉ reported in 2020 that Morton described being charged with attempted murder at age 14 and convicted of threats to kill after confronting an older girl at a care home. Those are distinct legal outcomes: the report says she was charged with attempted murder, not convicted of it. RTÉ’s report gives the account; The Guardian’s 2009 profile also discusses her time in care and reported youth conviction. The incident is one part of her biography, not a definition of it.
Paris Hilton: her account of troubled-teen facilities
Hilton has discussed her experiences in troubled-teen facilities in interviews and in her memoir. In a 2023 interview, The Independent reported Hilton’s account of abuse in those facilities and other trauma. The account should be attributed to Hilton; the interview does not independently establish every allegation. Her official memoir page describes the book’s coverage of her history with the troubled-teen industry.

Sally Field: childhood abuse discussed in her memoir
ABC News reported in 2018 that Field discussed childhood sexual abuse in connection with her memoir. This is Field’s account, as covered in ABC News’s interview; it should not be recast as an independently verified finding or used to reduce her life to trauma.
Why this cannot responsibly become a 15-person list
The headline names no subjects, and the available reporting documents only these three possible examples. It does not identify the intended 15 women or substantiate a complete set of claims. Adding 12 names from memory or repeating unsourced “dark past” stories would make the list appear more certain than the evidence allows. A longer version needs subject-specific, reliable reporting for each person and careful distinctions between personal disclosure, allegation, charge, and court-established conviction.

Readers interested specifically in Hilton’s account can consult Paris: The Memoir. It is a 2023 autobiography listed by Google Books and described on Hilton’s official book page. It concerns Hilton, not the other women mentioned here.
