As of October 8, 2026, NCIS is in its 24th season, which premiered Tuesday, October 6, 2026, on CBS and Paramount+. The biggest change for longtime viewers is that CBS’s official season 24 listing confirms Michael Weatherly is returning as Tony DiNozzo. Sean Murray (Timothy McGee) and Wilmer Valderrama (Nick Torres) are also still with the flagship series, according to Parade’s May 12, 2026 cast overview. Most of the rest of the original ensemble has moved on, died, or returned only for guest stints, and the details below separate those three situations.
Who is still on the flagship series
Three distinct situations are worth keeping apart: actors who have been on the show continuously, actors who have come back after leaving, and actors whose return is limited to a particular season or episode.

- Sean Murray (Timothy McGee): He began as a recurring character in season 1 and became a series regular in season 2. Parade lists him among the continuing cast.
- Wilmer Valderrama (Nick Torres): He joined in season 14 and remains on the series, per Parade.
- Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer): He has been with the show since season 1, moving from recurring status to series regular. He has also written for the series.
- Diona Reasonover (Kasie Hines): She started as a recurring character in season 15, became a regular, and also writes on the show.
- Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo): He is returning to the flagship series for season 24. CBS’s trailer for the season carries the line “Michael Weatherly returns as Tony DiNozzo.”
Emily Wickersham (Eleanor Bishop) is the one name here whose status is easy to overstate. Parade reports that she returned in season 23 in 2026. That report does not establish her as a season 24 regular, so treat her current role as unconfirmed until CBS’s cast listing for the season names her.
Former regulars and where they are now
Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs)
Harmon led the series for 18 full seasons and left during season 19. Parade reports that he narrates NCIS: Origins, the prequel in which Austin Stowell plays a younger Gibbs. That narration is a franchise connection, not a return to the flagship lead role. Parade also notes that Harmon reprised Gibbs in Freakier Friday (2025).

Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto)
Perrette played Abby through the first 15 seasons. Parade reports that she starred in Broke in 2020 and has retired from acting since then. That is the outlet’s description of her career; it says nothing about her plans beyond that.
David McCallum (Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard)
McCallum died on September 25, 2023, at age 90, according to Parade. He is the only death among the cast members covered in the sources for this update.

Cote de Pablo (Ziva David)
De Pablo played Ziva as a series regular through season 11 and returned for seasons 16 and 17. She later starred with Weatherly in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which Parade describes as a one-season run, and co-hosts the rewatch podcast Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch with him. Her spinoff and rewatch work is separate from any current flagship role.
Sasha Alexander (Caitlin Todd)
Alexander left after the first two seasons. Parade describes later work on Rizzoli & Isles and Shameless, directing episodes of You and Bull, and a role in season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer. Those are career highlights as reported in May 2026, not confirmed current bookings.

Michael Weatherly’s spinoff years
Weatherly played a lead role from season 1 through season 13 and then starred in Bull (2016–2022). His return to the original series in season 24 follows his reprise of DiNozzo in NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

Why the answer changes so often
“Where are they now” is harder for this show than for most series because the franchise keeps pulling actors back. Weatherly and de Pablo reunited in a spinoff, Weatherly is back on the original show, and Harmon’s connection to the franchise runs through narration rather than the lead role. Read each name against three questions: is the actor on the flagship series now, what franchise role do they have beyond it, and what work have they done since leaving.
