UNO Showdown is a matching-card UNO game with an electronic, timed face-off: when a marked card is played, two players load cards into a unit and press their paddles after its signal. The player the cards flip toward takes them. This guide covers Mattel’s GMX56 edition, listed for ages 7 and up and 2–10 players.
What makes UNO Showdown different?
The basic game still uses UNO’s familiar matching rules: play a card that matches the top discard by number, color, or symbol, or use an appropriate special card. GMX56 adds an electronic Showdown unit that creates a head-to-head card-flipping contest during play.
Mattel identifies GMX56 as UNO Showdown Supercharged, a 2020 release with its own unit design and sounds. Details below refer to that edition; another UNO Showdown product may have different components or instructions. Mattel’s GMX56 product listing and its English instruction sheet provide the edition-specific details.
How does a Showdown work?
- Play a card with the Showdown icon. The player who played it faces the next player in the current order of play.
- Load the cards. The two players take the number of cards shown on the icon from the Draw pile and slide them face down beneath the unit’s tabs.
- Get ready at the paddles. Each player places a hand on a paddle. The unit gives a countdown with red lights and tones.
- Press on the green signal. When the light flashes green, both players press. The cards flip toward one player; that player adds them to their hand.
What does Wild Showdown do?
With a Wild Showdown card, the player chooses an opponent instead of automatically facing the next player, selects one to three cards for the face-off, and chooses the color that continues play. The manual says it may be played even if the player has another playable card.

What comes in the GMX56 game, and how do you set it up?
Mattel’s instructions list 112 cards and one UNO Showdown Supercharged unit. Deal seven cards to each player, put the remaining cards in a Draw pile, and turn one card face up to start the Discard pile. Place the unit where the players can reach it.
The unit needs three AAA alkaline batteries, which are not included. Mattel’s instructions say to install them with a Phillips screwdriver; its support listing recommends alkaline batteries for its products.

How do you win a round, and how does scoring work?
Call “UNO” when you have one card left. If another player catches you before the next player begins their turn, you draw two cards. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round and scores for the cards left in opponents’ hands:
| Card left in an opponent’s hand | Points |
|---|---|
| Number card | Face value |
| Draw Two, Reverse, or Skip | 20 each |
| Wild or Wild Draw Four | 50 each |
| Wild Showdown | 40 |
The GMX56 instructions set the overall objective at 500 points. The round winner adds the applicable card values from opponents’ hands to their score.
