It was her first musical project after treatment for intestinal cancer, and it arrived alongside her return to Carnaval stages that year. The headline’s “prepara” (is preparing) describes the 2024 news moment. Preta Gil died on July 20, 2025, aged 50, so this is now a retrospective on a comeback that had already happened in part.
What the EP is
The verifiable facts about the release are few, and they are consistent across the reporting that covers them.
| Attribute | What the sources establish | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Title | De Volta ao Sol, with a title track of the same name | Billboard Brasil, February 2024; IMMuB catalog |
| Tracks | Three songs | Preta Gil’s January 2024 announcement, as reported at the time; Apple Music listing, 2024 |
| Running time | About eight minutes in total | Apple Music listing, 2024 |
| Release date | February 2, 2024 | Billboard Brasil, 2024 |
| Collaborators | Producers Pablo Bispo and Ruxell; Ruxell also appears on the title track | Billboard Brasil, 2024; Amazon Music listing |
| Format | Digital EP, with the title track catalogued separately as a digital single | IMMuB catalog |
| Single listing date | January 19, 2024 for the title track by Preta Gil and Ruxell | Amazon Music listing |
The January 19 single date and the February 2 EP date are different events in the same rollout, not a conflict. The announcement described one single arriving each Friday, so the EP was assembled from a staggered release. The catalog listings are digital. They do not establish a physical edition of this EP. Preta Gil’s older physical CDs are separate releases and are not part of this project.
From announcement to Carnaval
The rollout ran in this order:
- January 2024: Preta Gil announced the EP as her first musical project after cancer treatment, describing three songs released one per Friday.
- January 19, 2024: The title track is listed on Amazon Music under Preta Gil and Ruxell.
- February 2, 2024: Billboard Brasil reported the EP’s release and framed the 2024 Carnaval season as her return to the stage.
- February 4, 2024: She performed at RioArena to celebrate 15 years of Bloco da Preta.
Her Salvador appearance at the family’s Camarote Expresso 2222 is a separate event. The sources confirm the appearance but do not establish its date, so it should not be read as part of the Rio performance.

Her own words on the song
Introducing the song on TVZ, Preta Gil said: “Gente! Boa noite! Essa música que acabei de cantar representa uma nova fase da minha vida, um recomeço!” (Roughly: “Everyone, good evening! The song I just sang represents a new phase of my life, a restart.”) gshow attributes the statement to her and dates the report to March 11, 2024.
The health context behind the comeback
Returning in stages
In March 2024, Preta Gil told Folha that she was returning gradually and carefully, because treatment had left physical and emotional effects. She described limitations and a deliberate reintroduction to stage work rather than a full-speed return.

The recurrence
Folha’s July 2025 retrospective reports that she announced the return of her cancer in August 2024. It also notes that she had continued some stage work after her first treatment period, which places the 2024 Carnaval appearances inside a longer and more difficult timeline than the EP’s release alone suggests.
What the sources do not establish
- Sales, streams, or chart performance: None of the reviewed reporting gives a figure for these. Any claim of commercial success would be unsupported.
- Audience size: The RioArena and Salvador appearances are documented as events, but no attendance numbers are given.
- Current availability: The listings cited are from 2024. Streaming catalogs change, so check the current Apple Music, Amazon Music, or IMMuB pages before assuming the EP is still offered.
Why the headline is a historical frame
Readers searching the phrase “retorno ao Carnaval” or “novo EP” are looking at 2024 coverage. The EP, the title track, and the Carnaval performances are real and documented, but there is no current or planned return to report. The story as it stands ends with Preta Gil’s death in July 2025.
