Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights is no longer upcoming: it opened in theaters in February 2026 and is now available on digital and 4K Ultra HD. Starring Margot Robbie as Cathy and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, the film is a sensual, highly stylized interpretation of Emily Brontë’s novel—not a complete or strictly faithful adaptation.

Who stars in the film, and who made it?
Margot Robbie plays Cathy and Jacob Elordi plays Heathcliff. The supporting cast named by Warner includes Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell. Fennell wrote and directed the film from her screenplay based on Brontë’s novel. She produced with Josey McNamara and Robbie; Sara Desmond and Tom Ackerley executive produced.
The credited creative team includes cinematographer Linus Sandgren, production designer Suzie Davies, editor Victoria Boydell, casting director Kharmel Cochrane, composer Anthony Willis, and costume designer Jacqueline Durran. Warner’s home-release announcement also credits original songs by Charli XCX, whose related album is promoted on the official film site.
Rank #2
Is the movie steamy?
“Steamy” is a useful shorthand for the film’s sexual emphasis, not a formal genre label or a guarantee about any viewer’s response. The R rating cited by Warner specifies sexual content, some violence, and language. Warner’s promotional description calls Cathy and Heathcliff’s forbidden passion a relationship that turns “from romantic to intoxicating in an epic tale of lust, love and madness.” That is studio marketing language; the film’s intensity and its adaptation choices are matters viewers and critics may assess differently.
How does Fennell’s film differ from Brontë’s novel?
The film is based on Wuthering Heights, but it should be approached as Fennell’s interpretation rather than a scene-by-scene rendering of the whole book. The Associated Press review, published February 9, 2026, says the film takes many liberties and concentrates on Cathy and Heathcliff. It notes that Hindley and Hareton are absent, and characterizes the result as a stylized, anti-academic interpretation focused on desire, power, and revenge.

That focus changes the scope: the movie centers the lovers’ charged relationship rather than reproducing the novel’s broader cast and full narrative. The AP’s description is a critic’s assessment, not a neutral statement of what every viewer should think. Readers seeking the novel’s complete story and character network should read Brontë’s book alongside the film rather than treating the movie as a substitute.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What was the film’s opening reception?
The Associated Press reported that the film earned an estimated $34.8 million in North American ticket sales during its first three days, based on studio estimates, and that PostTrak polling found 76% of opening-weekend ticket buyers were women. These are opening-weekend figures, not final attendance or a measure of all audiences. The AP also reported mixed reviews at the time; its cited audience and review scores were snapshots from February 2026 and are not presented here as current ratings.
