The short answer is no. “Expletive Deleted,” the third episode of Season 2 of CBS’s Watson, does not close out the storyline the headline calls the show’s worst. CBS lists the episode with a date of October 27, 2025. The Watson and Laila romance continues, Ingrid Derian’s return to work carries on, and a new complication with a man named Beck begins. “Worst plotline” is the headline writer’s judgment, and the episode does not settle which storyline, if any, deserves that label.
Episode details and what changes
The episode is organized around one medical case and three character threads. The table below separates what the official synopsis establishes from what a secondary recap adds, and whether each thread ends in this episode.
| Thread | Status after this episode | Where the detail comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Maxine’s medical case | Resolved within the episode | Case details from the CBS synopsis; the lupus diagnosis is reported by CinemaBlend |
| Watson and Laila | Continues; the romance is not ended | CBS synopsis |
| Ingrid’s return to work | Continues; she is still trying to fit back in | CBS synopsis and recap coverage |
| Ingrid and Beck | New thread begins; no resolution in this episode | TV Insider cast interview and recap coverage |
Which plotline the headline could mean
“Worst plotline” is not defined in the headline, and it can point to three different storylines. Each one behaves differently in this episode, so the claim holds only for some of them.
The Watson and Laila romance
This is the strongest candidate for the headline’s meaning. In this episode, Watson is still trying to persuade Laila that he is serious about their relationship, and the two keep working together on the case. The episode does not end that thread. Ready Steady Cut, a secondary recap source, argues that the romance has barely developed and that Laila is pushed to the margins of her own story. That is a critic’s reading. It is not a ranking, and it does not mean the show has agreed to drop the romance.

Ingrid’s earlier troubles and return
CBS says Ingrid is struggling to fit back in at work, and a newcomer joins her therapy group. Recap coverage describes her making efforts to repair her relationships with colleagues. These are continuing threads, not closed ones. The episode moves Ingrid’s arc forward without resolving it.
Ingrid and Beck
This is the new storyline, and it is the one most likely to make readers wonder whether the show is starting a bad pattern. Beck is introduced as a fellow member of Ingrid’s support group for people with sociopathic traits. He has a local startup, asks about the clinic, and keeps pushing after Ingrid turns down both a business connection and a personal one. She threatens him, and he does not back off. The story is not resolved in this episode, so the thread can’t be called finished, either as a strength or a weakness.
Rank #2
The Maxine case
The medical case is the episode’s most self-contained element. CBS describes Maxine as a 30-year-old patient who looks about 10, and the ages are part of the plot rather than a published statistic. Coverage from CinemaBlend describes Maxine as wanting to be treated as an adult, and it reports that the case ends with a lupus diagnosis. The official synopsis does not name the diagnosis, so the lupus detail should be credited to that recap rather than to CBS.
Beck and the threat Ingrid does not take seriously
TV Insider’s cast interview with Eve Harlow, who plays Ingrid, gives the clearest explanation of why the Beck thread hooks the character. Harlow’s view is that Ingrid is drawn to a person who does not react to her threats:

“I think that because of his response or lack of response to the murder threat, that’s what hooks Ingrid because I think there are very few people that come along that challenge her in any way.”
The interview is dated October 27, 2025. It is Harlow’s interpretation of Ingrid, not an objective account of how the show is performing. Harlow also says the clinic feels like home to Ingrid and that she wants the team’s respect while keeping a darker side.

How the critical coverage reads the episode
Ready Steady Cut’s recap is titled with a verdict that the show “isn’t working,” and it lays out two concerns. The first is the Laila romance, which it calls underdeveloped. The second is the Beck material, which the recap worries could be an attempt to build another Moriarty-style threat for Ingrid. Both are opinions. Neither source establishes that the show’s writers have ranked these storylines, and no viewership figures or audience ratings for the episode are part of the reporting on it.
