The most recent report we could find places Connor Stalions in a Michigan high school coaching role, as described by Netflix in August 2024. We could not verify that he holds that job as of October 2026. What is established is the NCAA’s 2025 final decision on his role in Michigan’s in-person scouting scheme, and a reported 2026 denial of his appeal.
Where Connor Stalions stands today
Three dated sources answer the question, and they answer different parts of it:
- Netflix, August 2024: reported that Stalions was coaching at a Michigan high school. This is the latest role-specific description we located, and it is more than two years old.
- NCAA, August 15, 2025: the Committee on Infractions issued its public decision on the scouting scheme, with sanctions against Stalions.
- ESPN, February 12, 2026: reported that the NCAA appeals committee had denied his appeal.
Keep the employment question separate from the NCAA question. The sanctions limit where and how he can work in college athletics, but they do not confirm or rule out a particular job. A high school position reported in 2024 may or may not still be his.
What the documentary says
Untold: Sign Stealer is built around an exclusive interview in which Stalions gives his account of the Michigan sign-stealing allegations. Netflix describes him as having built a database of thousands of signals while working as a Michigan analyst. Treat the film as Stalions’ own perspective, presented with the filmmakers’ framing. It was made and described before the NCAA reached its final decision, so it cannot reflect that outcome.

Two lines from the Netflix coverage are worth reading in context:
- Stalions, on his approach: “I don’t break the rules. I exploit them.” This is his documentary-era statement. The NCAA later found that the arranged scouting violated its rules, so the line should be read as his self-description, not as a finding.
- Director Micah Brown, on Stalions: “Whether you’re making a film or running a football team, you can’t teach people to care.” This is Brown’s characterization, not an independent finding about Stalions’ conduct or employment.
What the NCAA found in 2025
The NCAA’s August 15, 2025 public infractions decision is the authoritative account of the case. It makes three findings that matter most for a reader:

- The period. The scouting scheme ran from August 2021 through October 2023.
- The central figure. The decision identifies Stalions as the central figure in the scheme.
- The conduct. A network of individuals attended games and filmed the sidelines of Michigan’s scheduled and potential future opponents. The decision records 56 instances involving 13 future opponents across 52 contests.
The NCAA announcement cited interview testimony, ticket receipts, and transfer data among the corroborating evidence. The committee’s penalties on Stalions were an eight-year show-cause order and a one-year suspension. A show-cause order requires any NCAA member school that employs him during that period to justify the employment to the association, which is why the NCAA ruling matters for any future college coaching career.
The appeal
ESPN reported on February 12, 2026 that the appeals committee denied Stalions’ appeal. We found no later reporting that reverses or modifies those penalties, but readers should check the NCAA’s own announcements for any change after that date.
Signal decoding is not the same as scouting
The distinction between legal and illegal sign work is the center of the case. The NCAA decision says that studying television broadcasts and exchanging information on signals were practices the parties acknowledged as permissible, and they were not the subject of the violation. The violation concerned targeted, off-campus, in-person scouting: having people attend future opponents’ games and film them.
The decision also records an estimate from Stalions that 80 to 90 percent of teams have staff focused on deciphering signals. That figure is his own estimate as the decision reports it, not a measured league-wide rate, and it should not be cited as one.
