TEST is a 2025 Tamil drama about three lives colliding around a historic cricket match. Its appealing premise and cast give the story an early pull, but Nandini Ramnath’s review for Scroll.in finds that the film’s 145-minute runtime is weighed down by repetitive, overstretched plotting. Whether it works for you may depend on how much its performances can carry those long turns.
What is TEST about?
Directed and written by S. Sashikanth, TEST follows a cricketer, a teacher and a scientist whose lives converge during a historic cricket match. Netflix’s official synopsis describes the meeting as a point at which three ordinary people face life-altering decisions.

Arjun (Siddharth) is a cricketer anxious about his poor form and what it means for his future. His wife, Padma (Meera Jasmine), is part of the domestic life surrounding that uncertainty. Kumudha (Nayanthara), a teacher hoping to have a child, is married to Saravanan (R. Madhavan), a scientist trying to get a project off the ground. The film gradually brings their separate pressures together.
The cricket match supplies the convergence point, while the stories focus on ambition, family and choices under pressure. That makes the title’s idea of a “test” a useful way to read the film’s conflicts, rather than a promise that the sport itself is the whole story.

Do the characters and performances work?
In her 4 April 2025 review for Scroll.in, Nandini Ramnath praises the early scene-setting and the way the film introduces its characters before their troubles intersect. She highlights Meera Jasmine’s supporting performance and Siddharth’s work in Arjun’s worst moments. Ramnath also notes the chemistry between Nayanthara and Madhavan, and singles out Nayanthara’s handling of Kumudha’s conflicts.
Those strengths matter because the film asks viewers to invest in several lives at once. The setup gives each character a personal stake before the plot draws them into the same crisis; the cast is the main reason the separate threads can hold attention as they begin to overlap.

Where does TEST lose momentum?
Ramnath’s main reservation is the film’s construction. She describes TEST as repetitive and overstretched, arguing that events are prolonged and plot turns accumulate across its 145 minutes. In her assessment, the initial character work and performances do not fully offset the strain of that extended plotting.
That is one critic’s judgment, not an aggregate verdict or evidence of a wider consensus. It points to the central trade-off for a prospective viewer: the film offers a substantial character setup and several performances Ramnath admires, but its long, winding development may test patience.

Who may enjoy it?
- Consider it if you like ensemble dramas in which personal dilemmas converge around a public event.
- The cast may be a draw if you want to see Siddharth, Nayanthara, R. Madhavan and Meera Jasmine in an interconnected story.
- Go in cautiously if repetitive plotting or a long runtime tends to frustrate you; Ramnath’s review specifically identifies those as weaknesses.
