It contains nine stories, including uncanny tales beyond the Taranath material. Bengali readers can investigate the 2024 hardcover Taranath Tantrik Samagra, but its online listing does not include a contents list, so it does not establish that the book is exhaustive.
Taranath is a fictional character created by Bengali writer Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. Stories continued later by his son, Taradas Bandyopadhyay, belong to a separate part of the character’s literary history.
Who is Taranath Tantrik?
Taranath Tantrik is a fictional Bengali literary character, not a documented occult practitioner. A secondary overview credits Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay with creating him and says his son, Taradas Bandyopadhyay, later continued stories featuring the character. The overview identifies two Taranath stories by Bibhutibhushan, but that count should not be treated as definitive without checking primary editions. Character overview
The stories draw on occult and uncanny themes as fiction. Their literary premise should not be confused with evidence that the practices or events they depict occurred.

Where can you read Taranath Tantrik in English?
Taranath Tantrik and Other Tales from the Supernatural
Speaking Tiger Books published this English collection in 2022, translated by Devalina Mookerjee. The catalog record lists ISBN 9789354473715 and 234 pages. It describes nine stories: seven short stories involving uncanny themes and two concerning tantra. The collection includes supernatural stories beyond the Taranath material; it is not described as a translation of a complete Taranath corpus. Book catalog record
The book description says, “The borders of reality are porous in this world.” That is the catalog’s wording, not a quotation attributed here to Bibhutibhushan or Mookerjee.
Check the retailer or bookseller listing for the format you want and current stock; the catalog record identifies the edition but does not establish marketplace availability.
What is the Bengali edition?
Taranath Tantrik Samagra
Dey’s Publishing lists a Bengali hardcover edition published in 2024 by Mitra & Ghosh Publishers, credited to Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay and Taradas Bandyopadhyay. The listing gives a length of 356 pages. It does not provide a detailed contents list, so the title Samagra alone cannot confirm that it contains every story featuring Taranath. Bengali book listing
Before buying, check the specific edition’s contents with the bookseller or publisher if completeness matters to you. The listing establishes its credited authors and basic publication details, not its full scope.
Which reading route should you choose?
| Priority | Edition to investigate | Established details | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read in English | Taranath Tantrik and Other Tales from the Supernatural | Devalina Mookerjee translation; Speaking Tiger Books, 2022; nine stories; ISBN 9789354473715 | Desired format and current stock; the collection also includes other supernatural tales |
| Read in Bengali | Taranath Tantrik Samagra | Bengali hardcover listing; Bibhutibhusan and Taradas credited; Mitra & Ghosh Publishers, 2024; 356 pages | Story-by-story contents and whether the edition is exhaustive |
These are different reading routes, not editions with established identical contents. The English catalog describes a nine-story translation anthology; the Bengali listing does not provide enough detail to compare its stories title by title.

What is known about the stories’ publication history?
Bibhutibhushan’s online bibliography offers context about his works and story collections, but its own page says the list is incomplete. The material available there does not establish the original magazine publication dates of the Taranath stories. Bibhutibhushan bibliography
For a dependable story-by-story chronology or a definitive account of later continuations, consult primary editions or publisher contents pages. The available catalog descriptions support identifying the two books above, but not a complete bibliography of the character’s stories.
