What happened at the end of School Spirits Season 2?
Maddie Nears spends the season trying to understand how she ended up among the dead and how to return to her living body. Simon is alive, but his ability to connect with the spirit world puts his grasp on reality under strain. Their friends in both worlds help pursue Maddie’s return, while the ghosts search for Mr. Martin and the mystery of Janet’s past comes into focus. Paramount’s season synopsis describes Maddie’s task as uniting friends in the spectral and living worlds to reclaim her stolen life.

The finale resolves Maddie’s central goal: she wakes in her own body at the hospital. But the outcome is not a clean reunion. Simon has returned to the school looking for her and appears in the scar-world. Wally, meanwhile, is last seen facing an exit door in his own scar. The season ends without revealing whether Simon can get out or whether Wally will cross over.
What happened between Janet and Mr. Martin?
The finale reveals that Mr. Martin had once considered detaching a hose in the lab to cause a gas leak, but changed his mind. Janet was testing flint torches, and the gas led to an explosion that killed her. In the scar-world, a door appeared. Janet stopped Mr. Martin from going through it, then let it close before she entered. She said she had unfinished business.

That history links Janet’s death to Mr. Martin’s earlier crisis, but it does not make her death intentional: the explosion happened accidentally while she was testing the torches. Janet’s choice to stay also leaves her unfinished business unresolved at the end of the season.
How Season 2 builds to the finale
The official episode guide traces the season’s main turns rather than providing a scene-by-scene account. Maddie follows clues about her body as Simon struggles with reality; the ghosts seek Mr. Martin while Janet is haunted by her past. Janet’s history is decoded and she tries to adjust to a new life. Later episodes bring revelations around a dinner party, expose tensions and shared trauma, and move Janet toward giving answers. The final episode puts Maddie’s body in jeopardy before the hospital awakening and the scar-world cliffhangers.

Season 2 premiered January 30, 2025, with three episodes, followed by weekly Thursday releases, according to Paramount’s March 2025 announcement.
What to remember before Season 3
- Maddie is back in her body. Her season-long effort succeeds, but the finale does not show an uncomplicated reunion with Simon.
- Simon is in the scar-world. He appears there after returning to the school to find Maddie; his fate remains open.
- Janet’s death was accidental. Gas from the lab led to an explosion while she was testing flint torches.
- Janet stayed for unfinished business. She stopped Mr. Martin from taking the exit door and remained behind.
- Wally has a choice ahead. The finale leaves him facing an exit door without confirming what he does.
Executive producer Oliver Goldstick, speaking to TVLine about Simon’s cliffhanger, said, “Simon has had access to a world that other people have not.” Executive producer Nate Trinrud described the theme behind Simon’s situation this way: “It’s really easy to lose yourself when you’re trying to save somebody else.” Those comments offer context for the character’s predicament, not a confirmation of what happens next.

Where Season 3 fits—and how to catch up
Season 3 is listed by Paramount Global Content as premiering January 28, 2026, and the series is renewed for Season 4. Paramount’s March 19, 2025 announcement said Seasons 1 and 2 were available on Paramount+ in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Latin America, and Brazil at that time. Streaming catalogs change by territory, so check your local Paramount+ listings for current availability.
Watching the season again provides episode-level performances and details; this recap is the faster way to refresh the main plot and finale turns. Paramount reported that Season 2 averaged 3.9 million audience members in its first 28 days, a 94% increase compared with the Season 1 premiere. Those are figures from Paramount’s own 2025 renewal announcement, not an independent audience measurement.
