If you are catching up before watching it, the essentials from Season 1 are Percy’s quest to return Zeus’s stolen master bolt, his effort to rescue his mother, Sally, and the betrayal that changes how he sees the people around him.
Why the gods’ world becomes Percy’s problem
Percy Jackson is twelve, and his life changes when he discovers that the stories and creatures of Greek mythology are part of his world. He is a demigod, the son of a mortal mother and a Greek god. That identity draws him into a conflict among the gods and makes him the focus of a dangerous quest.
The season’s central companions are Grover Underwood, a satyr, and Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena. They are not just guides along the way: Grover and Annabeth become Percy’s partners as he tries to understand his place in the gods’ world and navigate its threats.
The two stakes behind the quest
Percy and his friends set out to find and return Zeus’s master bolt. Its disappearance threatens to deepen the conflict among the gods, giving the quest consequences beyond Percy’s own safety.

At the same time, Percy is trying to save his mother, Sally, who has been captured by Hades. The search for the bolt and the effort to bring Sally back give the season its two intertwined goals: avert a divine crisis and rescue someone Percy loves. Disney’s official Season 1 recap description identifies both the bolt and Sally’s capture as central to the story.
Monsters, companions and a betrayal
The journey takes Percy, Grover and Annabeth into encounters with mythological creatures and dangers. The quest is not simply a sequence of battles: as the trio pursues the bolt, questions of trust become part of the larger conflict.

By the end of the season, Percy discovers that a friend has betrayed them. That revelation is an important thread to carry forward; it reframes the danger as more than a problem caused by monsters or a dispute among gods. Disney’s recap description flags the betrayal as a major end-of-season development, without naming it in the description.
What Season 2 picks up
Disney announced Season 2 as an adaptation of The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan’s series. Its announced premise sends Percy after Grover and the Golden Fleece to save Camp Half-Blood, with Annabeth, Clarisse and Percy’s newly discovered cyclops half-brother, Tyson, involved. The season premiered December 10, 2025, with two episodes, followed by weekly Wednesday releases, according to Disney’s November 6, 2025 announcement.

That setup makes the Season 1 relationships and betrayal worth remembering: Percy’s next challenge concerns Grover and the safety of the camp, not just another isolated quest. The television series is based on Riordan’s books, but reading them is not a prerequisite for following the show.
